I still listen to them, was rocking an HR cd just the other day.
 Saw a really good documentary a few weeks ago on punk rock in general, tons of rad footage including the Big Boys and DRI etc., it's called American Hardcore. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0419434/ |

Im gonna see if I can buy it. Thanks for pointing it out. DRI was insane. I saw them live. I lived about two hours south of SF so I was luckily able to see many of these bands. |

Im gonna see if I can buy it. Thanks for pointing it out. DRI was insane. I saw them live. I lived about two hours south of SF so I was luckily able to see many of these bands. I still have all that stuff including tons and tons of punk band demo tapes etc., I had a nieghbor who lived next door to me who used to supply me with random cassettes all the time, stuff like DOA, Angry Samoans, DI, DK, Subhumans, Agnostic Front, and so on and so on. I kept it all and even break it out from time to time, still have all my old death metal on vinyl as well. I saw a few of them as well, most of the time we would just hang out in front of the venue and listen from outside as we were just kids and too broke to buy tickets...sigh....those were the days

I saw the very last Bad Brains show. They opened for the Beastie Boys. H.R wasn't with them then. Bad Brains sans H.R. is actually referred to as Soul Brains. Damn, Bad Brains were so ahead of their time.

Damn, Bad Brains were so ahead of their time. Really? Thats awesome. I didnt actually realize Bad Brains had been around quite as long as they had been. My recollection of them was from high school and that was 87-90. They had been together since 1979! Amazing. I liked the way they used to go back and forth between the hardcore thrash and the mosh pit and then a super mellow Rastafarian song. Quite a range. The last album I had was "Quickness" which was okay. |

Way ahead of their time. One of the first black bands to explore that genre, and a lot of hardcore punk fans accepted them with open arms right away.

Yeah, thats another thing. There were NO other non caucasian Punk bands that I can recall at least. So that probably was a big deal although I remember even the skinhead representation at the shows (and in the pit) so they were embraced in that respect. It was all about the music and they were talented.

Some of that is probably super valuable to the right collector although it might just have more sentimental value to it. I also had quite a bit but ended up selling it when I had to move. It was too much to carry long distance. Yep! I did the "hang outside" thing also. I was able to get into "The Farm" in San Francisco which was a youth center back in the late 80s and many Punk bands played there. Also "The Stone" was another good one. |

You need to find their first one on Roir Records and thaei live in Amsterdam CD...& I against I on sst records. That's their best stuff.

Yeah I actually had "I Against I" and that was my favorite. Im just saying the very last album of theirs I purchased was "Quickness" It was good but a little more structured. It wasnt quite as raw sounding as "I against I" Probably because they were bigger by then and were recording and mixing in a major studio. Bleh.

No kidding, pretty much everything was put out by them it seems, much like Sony nowadays

There were a few others. Alternative Tentacles Records, Placebo which had J.F.A., Dischord with Minor Threat, Fugazi, Rites of Spring etc., Touch And Go had Butthole Surfers, and Big Black....
