If you can't answer the question, then why bother?

I did answer...If you don't want the answer, why bother asking?

What exactly is the point of your question if you've already hardened your heart against God and don't believe there is an answer?

This thread isn't about ME, and it isn't about YOU. I asked a question and I am waiting on some answers that proove prayers have been answered.

I didn't ask people to try to convert me to believe. I am not pushing my ideals onto anyone, and I prefer the same respect.

Ok... I can only infer then that you're trying to satisfy some internel indignance you have with the Christian mindset and are actually only looking for a debate.
As a Christian, I will pray that you have your "question" answered in a positive way that will give true meaning to you and any others who are reading.

To the believers, how many times have you actually prayed and whatever it was you were praying for happened?

To me, if prayer worked, don't you think that people with cancer would be healed? Suffering children wouldn't suffer?

Discuss!

I don't want bible verses thrown about in this thread. I want this to be strictly YOUR views.

My apologies. Yes I have had prayers answered many times. I have needed a job, prayed and got one; I saw my daughter get healed before my eyes when she was a child and had broken her nose; I have prayed for forgiveness and peace and felt a peace like never before; but I cannot prove any of these things. Neither can I prove there is wind. We only see the results of it. I will not bother you any more since you say you will always be a non-believer. That may not be a prayer, but I can assure you that God will honor it if that is your choice.

Very well put newwidowjim. I also have had many of my prayers answered. It is called faith for a reason.

Our earthly bodies are only temporary, we pass from this life eventually.

I think a mistake we can make is when we think of healing in a physical sense, or only involving the person we are praying for. There is also spiritual healing. I had a friend who lost her husband to cancer. During this time, there were many instances of healing, broken relationships between father and daughter mended, new and deeper bonds made. Sometimes we need to look at the bigger picture.

There is no doubt in my mind that prayers work.Sometimes they don't happen right away but they do get answered.I do belive prayers are much more effective if you have someone praying(or a bunch of people)praying for you.I think it is better if you pray for other people instead of yourself that's why I always pray for myself last in my prayers.Prayers should be looked at with common sense. If you stand in front of a moving train and pray that God will save you, guess what? You are going to get hit by that train. The bible says that "God works through his people".What that means is that if you are sick you should go see a Christian doctor. If you need money you should talk to the church and other Christian related originations to see if they could help you find a job.If you are looking for love and marriage you should look for other Christians. So in short if you are praying for something it is very important to pay attention to the strangers who come up to you and talk to you.If you are looking for a job and some stranger asks you if you are looking for a job pay attention! If you are looking for love and someone is saying they would like to go see that show or game pay attention! That could be God working through his people.

The other part of effective prayer is faith and that is what the majority of people do not do.I can give you one example of myself putting total faith in God...When I first moved to Seattle I needed to get a job right away.I only had enough money for maybe two weeks. When I prayed I prayed to have a similar job like I had in Colorado which was working in a scrap metal yard. That Sunday there was a opening for someone to operate their scrap processing shear. It was like God answered my prayers! To show my faith I only applied at that job and no others.I knew God would give me this job and he knew if I didn't get that job I would basically be homeless with no money. After I applied I got a call and the next day I got the job.Alot of people were surprised I got the position since it involved operating a machine worth well over half a million dollars and typically took 10 years of seniority(I was 22)to get to since it was one of the best jobs to have there.

As far as people dying from diseases and such.God knows what is best for us.Perhaps God knows that a few years from now this person was going to be in a horrible accident which would have caused much more greif for the family.Maybe that person would have gotten even more sick and only made things worse for the family. My grandmother died last year.I often wondered why she died when she did and it wasn't soon after she died that my uncle came down with a very bad case of cancer. It's a long story but he went quite crazy and put the whole family through hell and rung up hundreds of thousands of dollars in medical bills.I know my poor good grandmother would have drown in grief and I know it was Gods will for her not to have gone through that.

Never truer words spoken.I had a girlfriend who I almost married. At the time I was love sick and didn't realize she never loved me.I used to pray all the time that she would want to marry me and live with me etc.Now that it has been 7 years six I talked to her last I now know that she was actually the worst thing in the world for me.Althought I didn't realize it at the time....

I was a conservative-she was a liberal.

She was pro choice and worked for planned parenthood-I was pro life.

She was a Wiccan-I was a Christian.

I could go on and on.My point is that was one great unanswered prayer! There have been many other prayers I was very happy that wasn't answered.I do not get upset if my prayers are not answered now.

I have seen many people healed of cancer and other diseases. Gary Smalley and many other ministers would call one of the churches that I use to attend because we had a Wednesday night prayer meeting that was powerful. In that church alone there were many people that would show x-rays with the cancer (one was a friend that I facilitated a class with). After they were prayed for, some would say they felt heat and knew they were healed. Others just knew they were touched by God. They went to the doctor and had x-rays done before they were given any treatments. The x-rays proved what they had already known in their hearts. I have seen this personally several times with the evidence. My children’s Father had extremely high blood pressure and was taking 2 medicines. Even on the medication his blood pressure was 190/110(120/80 is normal). After many prayed for him he was healed. He quit taking the medications and the Doctor tried to reprimand him for that until he took his b/p and it consistently stayed around 110/70. I think faith that God can and will heal is a big factor, not always though. Our ways are not Gods ways and we have to trust Him even when we don’t understand. It's important to know what the Word of God has to say about a particular subject and then stand on the Word for that situation. God will also use us. To name one example I have personally delivered food to people that said they did not know how they were going to pack their child’s lunch the next day. If you want the proof of the x-rays e-mail me and I will give you the name and number of that church and many others where I see God working to meet needs physically, spiritually, mentally and financially.

Ok, thanks for the words, but I am still not getting the answer I was hoping for. Hmmm

Still no proof that prayer works?

I am a non believer and will always be that way, I am just curious.

You will never get your answer until you receive Christ. I am going to throw verses at you because I am not as wise as God. Please take these verses very seriously. All you have to do is believe and have faith that Jesus died for you and rose three days later, ask for salvation.

HEBREWS 10:37 For yet, a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry.
38 Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.
39 But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.

JOHN 14:23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

JOHN 3:15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

Here is a simple prayer you can pray to God. Saying this prayer is a way to declare to God that you are relying on Jesus Christ for your salvation. The words themselves will not save you. Only faith in Jesus Christ can provide salvation! “God I know that I have sinned against you and am deserving of punishment. But Jesus Christ took the punishment that I deserve, so that through faith in Him I could be forgiven. With your help, I place my trust in you for salvation, and I ask that you will forgive me of my sins. I thank you for your wonderful grace and forgiveness.
