Topic: No profile pic equals no response

even with a photo how do you know it is really their pic? I have seen some that I wondered about.

yeah, i was just about to say that. a person can "steal" several pics of someone else and pose as that person. so while i totally agree with it being creepy talking to someone with no photo, it doesn't really guarantee it's them. you're kind of operating on faith, since it's the net.

And something else I want to point out even married men and women will put up a recent photo of themselves and claim on their profile to be widowed or divorced..I know this is true cause it happened to me first hand.

thats bad, i didnt know that

Many of us have been fooled by people we have seen, dated, lived with, or married. This is nothing new.

Determining who you can trust with your heart and time goes way beyond a mere photo and was not the point of the thread

I have it written in all caps on my profile:

NO PHOTO, NO RESPONSE !

i used to reply to any and all email i received when i first starting communicating online.

i've since become jaded with all the stories of fakes, scammers, etc., that i don't bother responding to most email, whether there's a photo posted or not.

however, there are forum posters that i've come to like, respect and trust and i've no problem whatsoever exchanging email with them, even if there's no photo at all.

Call me paranoid, but I don't even trust forum posters with no photo.

There have been many instances where people have a second profile with a malicious agenda planned

oh i've been fooled by forum posters before as well.

however, i made a conscious decision that if i genuinely liked the person they represented themselves to be, i'd continue to have a friendship with them and communicate and banter via the forums and/or personal email.

although they wouldn't get ANY personal or private information out of me.

i remember the old site of which i was a member and, every so often, we'd go through the 'are you real' discussions. we'd even go so far as to post threads with names of people who'd been verified, either by in-life meetings and/or cam chat.

i'd be quite willing to do that again as a method to ensure online safety.

I understand the need for privacy, vanity, and insecurity that comprise most people's reasons for not posting a recent legitimate photo.

However, as far as I'm concerned you can tell your tale walking. Don't write me.

I need a face to put to the words otherwise it makes me very uncomfortable. It is not about me being shallow. It's about who the f*ck are you? You could be any one of 6 billion people on the planet.

I'm going to have to think hard about all the people that I know that know others, so I'm going to take my time with the list.

But I am going to e-mail you because I have a question about one of the names on your list.

Isn't this a response, albeit generic?

I suppose it is. How about this? I'm not going to respond via e-mail directly to the offending party!

I really don't care one way or another if they have a pic. But I'm not planning on meeting anyone anyway, so maybe that's a consideration.

I always wondered if a dog or a cat as the profile picture would be the person you meet if chosen tolaugh

End up walking along side a dog chatting about the birds and beeslaugh

EVERY time I have ever dealt with someone without a pic, I have discovered they do indeed have something to hide, either about their appearance, who they are or their marital status. So yeah, now, no pic, no response.

I have met a few chicks who were insecure about showing her photo...yet turned out to be be really nice looking ladies.

I have also met some not so perfect women...who are great in the sack! Really enthusiastic with a kind of happy grateful thing.

Met a couple that were just plain ugly...inside and out.

Pictures are nice...but, they are not the entire story....I would be suprized if anyone here said that the 18 pix allowed on profiles, completely shows who they are.
