I'm 47 years old and just got my thumbs down from the doctor. No more
fighting. I just wanted to taste the ring one more time. It's hard to
walk away even though I never made it to the big time.

33 wins
4 losses

Do any of you guys reaching this age find it hard to deal with?

A career to be proud of. Age is an inconvienience, That's for sure. Look
at it this way, Your doc is probably right. God forbid something
happened to you in the ring. Maybe you'll find that mentoring a young
fighter might be just the thing you need.

BigGlenn,

Nice to finally meet you. I'm one of those guys who tried to do
everything, because my back ground gave me the chance. Now I have to try
to have what people call "a real life". Big adjustment, but a real wake
up call.

take care

I have been into martial arts since I was a yonker.

I find that although I am still in good shape I can not compete
effectively with the younger crowd in a rule oriented competition.

I can still show them a thing or two but I don't have the stamina for a
protracted fight.

Isn't it fun when you get a young guy whos feeling his oats jumping all
over and you just shift a little here slide a bit there and he misses
over and over again.

First they get irritated cause they can't hit you - which causes them to
miss some more.

Then they lose it to their irratation and you can finish them off with
little effort.

adventure,

Yup, I know what you mean. The older you get the easier it is to sense
their balance. My Brother is the opposite, he just strikes first and
fast.

Hey bro, I'm 28 and havin trouble dealin with my age! LOL I honestly
never thought I would make it this long. I know it's not the same as
bein in the ring yourself, but what about becomin a trainer for young
inexperienced fighters, and helpin them get to the next level. You may
not be in there, but at least you'll be around what you're passionate
about.

Don't think I would make a good trainer. My personal favorite trainer
was Bill Miller. He trained James Tony, one of my favorite Boxers.

Favorite Kick Boxing trainer is an ex champ from France Simon.

Hey Red,

Pretty cool pic, by the way. I got this call like right after this last
post I put up. It was an old friend of mine from when I had a place here
before, like years ago. Anyway she said her son told her I was back in
town, and wanted to know if I would spend some time training him. I said
that's so funny because I was on this thread talking about not fighting
on the side any more.

Get a load of this, the kid is 14 years old size 14 shoes 6'4", hands
like rocks and 200 pounds already. He loves to fight, but the wrong
kind. So after I get back from my trip I'm going to check the kid out.
Who knows maybe I'll still have a little fun. I told his mom though no
street fighting or I won't get near him, cause he'll mess up his hands
before he ever gets into a ring.

Adventure would tell some youngster, and so would I "you have to learn
how to move way before you start throwing punches or kicks". Kids for
some reason get this backward, and it's the wrong way, I think anyway.
Kids learning how to fight won't learn how to breath right, because they
get to worked up. It's got to become automatic, and not from anger.
