So I rented the dark knight from Blockbuster... I have now learned that the movie I rented is a bootleg of the movie. Whom do I contact to report a violation of this? I know it's a federal law :) that much I am sure of. Any help would be much appreciated.

Blockbuster won't do anything about it.
Trust me on that. If you feel the need, pirated copywrited material is a federal offense... Contact you local fed shed. |

dont go back, rent somewhere else..or buy a dish, or
just have a drink and forget it |

Local Feds are the only way I guess.. |

The remedy's simple- go out and buy TWO legit copies of "The Dark Knight". All those already-richer-than-rich studio execs will thank you for it.

I didn't catch it at first at first everything looked legit but then I caught on. When you put a dvd into a dvd player the dvd starts from the beginning, it may show previews or it may go directly to a menu. In this case, after watching the movie, the dvd will now play from the very last thing I was watching. I wondered about it lastnight thinking it was just my imagination but I decided to tell my brother about it. He has the movie. I asked him to put the dvd in, skip scenes and then eject put another movie in play it then eject 2nd movie put batman back in and see if it starts from the beginning. As usual with any dvd I've ever watched it always starts from the beginning menu etc. His did. Mine doesn't.
It's not about renting from blockbuster or not, it's about fraud and to my knowledge it's illegal to sell pirated movies or *rent* them. Profit is being made off of a movie title in this case one of the biggest movies of the year and it's a straight up bootleg. I want people to know this, but more importantly I don't want this to ever continue nor should I have to pay for a bootleg. It's like be kind rewind except this time it's a multi chain million dollar business. I have caught them and now I want it reported. So local cops will know what to do? That's good stuff I shall make the phone call now. Thank you! |

Take it to the blockbuster counter when you return it and tell them so they go after the person who rented it before you and not you for replacing it, blockbuster didnt do it, but you are a suspect if you just return it.. "CYA"

How do you know its a bootleg?? If it was burned on DVD, it wouldn't have it's usual title face. Surprised Blockbuster didn't catch that. And if it did have the similar face on the original DVD, then the perps were professionals. |

they are filmed directly in the movie theater, and if you look close, sometimes you can even see the people get up to get something.....it's hilarious, but a rippoff. the ones from over-seas that is.

If you know absolutely for a fact that what you have is a bootleg copy I would forward it to the Feds by certified signature mail. I would be prepared to pay repeatative rental fees if it is over due or goes missing. I would however be very careful about making public accusations because if in fact you are not right the company could sue you for slander and that would cost you big bucks to protect yourself against their company lawyers.

I have a non-bootleg dvd and it almost always goes back to the last scene played. I have to hit the stop button twice, then it goes back to the start. I think it could be a cheaply produced, but legit-authorised copy for rental.
When John Lennon died, they produced thousands of his last album released, Double Fantasy, almost all had a bad skip at the beginning. They were just poorly prouduced in the hurry to get them out on the market. |

As far as finding out who to contact, I jus pop in a movie that u own find the FBI warning, there is a number to contact them in the warning...Good Luck!! |

The only noticable thing is the skip and maybe the vocals but I don't know what the vocals sound like since I have never seen the movie before I rented this. As for slander, it's a legitimate complaint that the movie is acting extremely strange from blockbuster. It's not acting like a dvd but rather a video tape. I have to rewind it to see it from the beginning which is bs. |

I'm going to try this stop button thing but the last time I hit stop it said it would play from that moment forward, I even ejected it and didn't seem to matter. I haven't seen the menu since I popped it into the dvd player for the first time. I also never hit enter to play the movie, it started on its own. |
