A couple is going to be interviewed on the Today show, she'll be giving birth to her 18th child in January. They have decided to write a book about parenting! How is anyone actually able to truly parent 18 children? 30 minutes with each child would be 9 hrs.

Yeah I watch the show about the Duggars....17 and counting on TLC. It's kind of neat show....but my honest opinion is the parenting is done more by their "older" kids then by the actual parents themselves. They are a little insane for having that many kids but it was their choice.

A long time ago, lots of families had many children, but in this day & time? And more of the older children got "stuck" with being a parent to the younger children way before they were old enough.

Back in the day, I can understand the need (want?) to have a large family to help with the farm work and such (granted, 21 is still a hell of a lot of kids), but I can't see how it could be feasible in this day and age. Hell, a single person with only one income can barely keep their head above water, and couples need at least two incomes to keep things going, especially if they want/have any kids.

18 kids in 2008?? They must be hella rich or something.

Besides the expense, how do you meet the emotional needs of a child when there's 18? In large families that I've seen (my mom came from 11, her sister had 9) the older children were the "parent" more so than the parent!

that is just not right, 18 children!, im not going to sit here and preach about how the parents perform as parents. but i will sit here and say its really unacceptable behavior, im pretty sure the government is supplying the family with most of the support financially. which in its self goes beyond belief.

shocking is the word

There's so much more to being a parent then spitting out babies and providing food & shelter! It's just beyond my grasp how they can even think about writing about parenting!

They might do well to keep the snake away from the cave.

If they are supporting themselves...whatever makes them happy. I'd like to think the kids are well cared for and have their emotional needs met, but sometimes that doesn't happen in a family with just ONE kid!

I used to think I could have been a "Walton mom" but 18 would always have been too many for me...but still, I'm sure not gonna judge!
