Normally use the bag makes a juicy Turkey.
A couple of years ago my son cooked the Turkey by Deep Frying it with Cajun spices it was the best I had ate in years. Matter of fact we were just talking about it yesterday and that is how we are going to fix the Turkey for Christmas this year. Hummmm huuhhhh good. Then get a Honey Baked Ham the best way to buy them. |

I have never used a turkey bag. I just stuff butter (oh, and use real butter if you can) under the skin and baste it every 20-30 minutes. Works out fine That's great that you mentioned that. The person that gave me the turkey said that I didn't need a thermometer because it has the pop up thing. I said that I needed one. They keep insisting that I don't need a thermometer. I keep saying that I do. |

no plastic bag ever for us. no deep fried turkey either. (we go on out , & just like killing a chicken, snap that head off and drain that blood & pluck it nice and clean)cook over a nice camp fire. Always is tasty.NOTE:(we do use spices on it as it cooks.)

depends on how big the bird is, & how big, & hot your camp fire is. You do not want to burn it to a crisp.

I keep saying that I do. I talked to my mom. She also said that the pop-up thing is useless. When she used it, she was carving the turkey and it wasn't cooked all the way. Just the opposite of what happened to you. So...either thing can happen. I'm going to the store now to get a thermometer. Also, onion and celery. |

Do it exactly the way your Mom did it. Thats the best, true and only way. Now if she's passed and you don't know or remember how she did it, it won't taste like Thanksgiving should taste and you will be sad and disappointed in yourself.
If you do it a different way and it tastes better than your Mom did it, you will feel sad and disappointed that your Mom was so narrow mindied that she never tried something different in her life. If you do cook it just the way your Mom did it, and it tastes just the way you always remember it to be, you will be sad and disappointed because you will remember all the times you argued and fought on the Holidays, over issues that never really mattered in the first place. The Best Thing to Do is eat at a friends house and mention that you are kinda sad and disappointed that you can't be with family for Thanksgiving.
