I did Thanksgiving back on Saturday and am dog and house sitting for 2 nights so my regulars can go visit family.

Now I rarely bring laundry with me when I dog sit. What I normally do is wash the clothes I brought with me, wash the bedding I use, and the throw rugs in the kitchen.

This time I bring actual real laundry (which they have told me to do if I need to), including my dance stuff that I need Saturday, only to get here and find a note that the washer broke down.

Last time I was here it was the air conditioner upstairs. One of the times before that, half the plumbing in the master bath didn't work. At least the shower was in the half that did work. (The master bath is HUGE).

There is always one thing not working when I come over. Why oh why oh why did it have to be the washing machine this time?

And the closest laundromat is about 20 blocks north and 30 blocks east. I haven't called yet to find out if they are open today. I could do the wash and bring it here to dry.

As I'm handwashing my clothes in the soaking sink, a thought occurs to me about the old fashioned wringers people used to put clothing through.

Those things would crush buttons.

So I wonder, did people take buttons off before washing and sew them back on after hang drying?

It doesn't really take long to sew on buttons.

But it would seem like a pain.
