They've asked Bush to explain it's special relationship with the U.S. to Obama.

Oh and then there's this.

Olmert said the U.S. has not advised Israel to restrain itself from taking action it deemed necessary against Iran's nuclear program.

But the outgoing Israeli leader stopped short of making any threat to strike Iran.

"I can't recall that anyone in the [U.S.] administration, including in the last couple of days, advised me or any of my official representatives not to take any action that we will deem necessary for the fundamental security of the state of Israel, and that includes Iran," Olmert said.

I don't think you want to know how I feel about this.

The creation of the state of Israel was the result of the Allies not really wanting jews around much more than the Nazi's did.

England didn't want them and neither did the U.S. Gee I know let's use biblical reasoning to give them their own country.

I have many Jewish friends including a Rabbi that agree with me on this so please don't call me antisemitic.

I think we want and are probably pushing Israel to do it. We are spread so thin militarily and "well" we have no money to do it ourselves. I think the US(GOV) is hoping Israel does attack Iran. JMO

Our blindness to the illegal and aggressive actions of Israel are one of the reasons so many other countries dislike American policy and in some cases Americans.

Stuff like this is really sickening to me.

WASHINGTON - Israel is asking U.S. President George W. Bush to describe to his successor, Barack Obama, the American commitment to ensure that its strategic deterrence is not compromised. The subject was the focus of Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's farewell meeting in the White House on Monday with Bush and top administration officials.

"I discussed with the president and his most senior staff issues connected to the core of the special relationship between Israel and the U.S., strategic matters of the utmost importance, and the ability to preserve those ties in the coming years," Olmert told reporters Tuesday.

Top administration officials told Olmert there was no point in a presidential letter from Bush, since it would not bind Obama. The sides decided instead on a list, compiled by the White House and delivered to Obama's transition team, that reviews all understandings and agreements.

In addition to the nuclear issue, Israel is also hoping to receive promised military aid and advanced weapons systems, and to restrict the U.S. supply of advanced weapons to Arab states.

"the conflict in the middle east has burnt itself out.....at least if you are rational, it has.." See i kinda disagree with that. Take pulling out of Iraq. Can we really do it? It would open Iraq up to a take over from Iran for one. I dont think McCain was lying about a "100yr" involvement. It cant even secure its own country by itself.. JMO

i would agree about the invlovment about not just having just a 100 yr involvement.crusades?..but then the same can be said about almost every other country in the world...its more about choices that are not quelled....and whom has the power to take interest to get involved...but i dont personally feel that in the grand scheme of things that this should be a target....in fact i dont see how our washing of tea in the harbor is any different from a political stand point......i ment "should have burnt itsself out"

I see Iraq as we took away its own selves capability of protecting itself(I personally was against the war from the start). So if we leave we can only blame ourselves for what might happen and the "need to go back in". JMO

glasses Israel is our buffer. We need them to be like a rabid dog.

That said, as a Jew, I think there should be land for Palestine as well. I just don't think they should be able to annex ALL key locations of multiple religions under their sphere of influence. If they did, good luck ever safely visiting Jerusalem again my friends.

I'd welcome them to change their disposition at any time. However, their scripture expressly and resolutely calls for the destruction of all "infidels" who are not of their religious ilk. That's not very tolerant.

I love all people equally. I'm also not a dope. glasses

So what's the problem? Obama is going to have to have many things explained to him, like how the REAL world operates. We've aleady seen a glimpse of this already. Al-qaeda (Ayman Zawahiri) referred to him as a "house negro" and the only retort from people associated with Obama was to the effect of "Oh, that's a racist comment... we condemn those remarks". This isn't a community organizational event in Chicago. One can't call for a boycott of Al-qaeda companies/businesses/products. No lawsuits for "hate speech". These kind of people cut off non-Muslim heads and play for keeps. Israel is one of the only allies the US has in that part of the world, I'd say they're pretty special.

The Israeli's were basically forced to sit on their hands while SCUD missles were being lobbed at them during the first Gulf War. Personally, I would like to see Netanyahu back as prime minister. If he and people in his administration perceive a real threat against Israel by Iran... take em out (a la the six day war), regardless of what the next US administration says. No need for Israel to repeat the folly of the Clinton administration when declining the offer for Bin Laden.
