I just came home after spending some time with my 17 yr. old daughter. She had a half day of school, so she drove herself over to see me. We hung out at my place for a while, chatted, called her younger sister who had a half day also to see if she would join us on trip to the library. As a family of readers, the library is a fun place for me and my girls. The youngest declined, and my daughter started making a list of books to look for. What I great idea I thought and made my own list of books that I would have liked to buy.
We found all the books we wanted, some by authors we are both familiar with, some new. Then we went a had a coffee at a little shop across from the library and read our books. She left to go to her college class. I am just so pleased that my daughter and I can still share such cool time together. And inspite of her goofy hair cut and punk music, she really is a great young lady and a joy to be with. I am a lucky man indeed. |

Really I am not always an A@@hole.  I am so proud of her taking freshman college classes too, at the local Comm. College. |

Tomorrow they both will come over for lunch before I have to go to work. I will be working over the Holiday. So it will be nice to spend some time with them both .

Thats really a beautiful thing mich. Too many parents lose touch with their kids before that age and chalk it up to "teenage rebellion". You mentioned that your daughter has what you consider a goofy haircut and her music is not exactly your favorite, but you managed to instill and maintain a common ground that all of you enjoy. It's a bonus that reading is that common ground.....much more wholesome than WWF :)

You mentioned that your daughter has what you consider a goofy haircut and her music is not exactly your favorite, but you managed to instill and maintain a common ground that all of you enjoy. It's a bonus that reading is that common ground.....much more wholesome than WWF :) I may not like her music, but its HER music, and I encourage her to attend live music whenever. Yeah, a mohawk..... but I shave my head. |
