I see a lot of profiles have reading on their activity list. Are there some good sci-fi books you could recommend.

My fave magazine is Fur-Fish-Game.

My fave genre is first contact with alien type books.

Currently I'm reading Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card. I finished Star Dragon by Mike Brotherton last nite.

Books I have by my bed are:

Freedom's Ransom - Anne McCaffrey
Freedom's Choice - Anne McCaffrey
Planet of the Damned - Harry Harrison
Galatic North - Alastair Reynolds

I like sci-fi, animal stories, and sometimes westerns (lots of Louis L'Amour) but maybe there are some other books that you really really liked that you might suggest.

As far as sci-fi is concerned I would suggest anything by Heinlein.

All the books by Fiest. I would give them to you even, I have the whole collection, my counselor left me the collection, but I could never get into it, he said I wrote like him and he enjoyed them. But whatever, maybe you could check him out at the library or something. I here R.A Salvatore gots some skills with battle scenes. As far as sci fi particularly, I would have to say, have you tried some ursula k le guin? I hear she is awesome. As far as new writers is concerned, haven't been keeping up, started reading the books by J.R. Ward though, good stuff, real graphic though, not for the faint of heart. Do you have any suggestions for a fantasy fan?happy flowerforyou

I finished the first one about a month ago then noticed that the series contains at least ten books and seems to be growing exponentially.

Are they all worth reading?

glasses Some of the originals are talk-fests but overall I would consider them to be classics.glasses The recent ones by Frank Herberts son are VERY good if you have read the old Dune books.glasses

 The Pern books kinda lean more toward fantasy than sci fi, although it has a sci fi foundation to the stories.

Heinlein's books seem very old? Would his theories and writings take me past 2008?

I looked at Tanith Lee's website and it seemed very dark...
