As a couple, they had named each other benefactor/executor, but both are gone now. I do know that there are some things his adult daughter, and her parents will have to do directly, but I'm doing the leg work to save them some of the frustration and heart ache. I expect to hit a few road blocks, but will have the death certificates with me and will not go back to my family empty handed.

Faith my deepest sympathy to you & your family. I wish I had some advice for you, but I can't add anything that others have not already suggested.

As far as who would haul off the debris of the house look in the yellow pages under Construction Clean-Up Contractors or Building Contractors.

The Company I work for use to run another company that did clean up around the new homes and while they were being built. Those same company's are normally set up to also do demolishing of existing homes as well or condemned homes. So a Building Contractor if you tell them what your looking for and why can actually in fact lead you to the name and phone numbers of the contractors they use to clean up and haul off the debris that the other contractors leave behind.

Besides that the city should be able to give you the name of the contractor they use to demolish condemn homes when they have them. For once a home is labeled condemned they actually have less then two years to have the house demolished and have it removed. If the homeowners do not then the city is required to they then acquire a lien on the property for the amount it cost to remove the debris. If the lien is not paid for the cost of demolishing after a certain amount of time the city actually will acquire the lot and then sell it to be reimbursed.

But due to fire and it being considered a hazard they do not give a lot of time before it is removed but.. you need to find out the Insurance company first for they may in fact need to see the house and may have all the information you need on the removal of the house as well. For most Insurance company's do in fact have there own list of contractors they use for each purpose. So I would say find the Insurance company first before you do any removal at all.

I don't know if it matters or not, but I think this is the fire that JB (a member on this site) witnessed across the street from her house.

I am very sorry for your loss. flowerforyou

Yes I think it is. I was up all night moving cars and hosing down our yards. I own the property across the alley and across the street together with my sister. I took pictures and they are on my website. www.springfieldcolorado.com

The one person that survived was taken out by the fire chief I heard, and another volunteer fireman crawled into the building to see if he could find the others, but he was overcome with smoke and almost lost his way and had to come back out. I heard that story on the local channel 6 baptist church broadcast just this morning.

We are all very stunned about this tragedy. If I can be of any help let me know.

Gloria Jean.

I went through a similar experience ten years ago...but nothing compared to what you have to handle.

Plus, the city has given us one week to clean the site (remove all debris).

That sounds a little unreasonable to me. There are still hot coals in the debris. The Fire truck was just here an hour ago putting some water on some smoldering coals.

That's what I thought!

I don't know if they are nationwide or not, but try ServPro for the clean-up. They are a fire and water damage resotration service, that's exactly what they do.
