On the internet it is hard to tell if something is staged or not so I would have probably done nothing.

I'm not sure what the local police would do if they got such a call. How would they find this person? It would be better to notify the owner of the site so that they can determine the person's location and then notify the authorities. It would be unlikely that you could get the location of the person until it was too late. But, I would attempt to do so.

thnx, Sky,

i can understand all the diff. feelings going on here. and can relate to them.

maybe a diff. scenario might pull it into focus.

a family driving alligator alley in Fl. looses control and ends up in the canal running along the side of the road. Your in a car behind them, and see this happening, what would be your response in this instance??

this is a true story also of which i was personally involed with.
I would most definitely stop and see what I could do to help.

But it wouldn't have occurred to me to put this in the same category of the suicide because the suicide was a purposeful choice but the auto accident was not.

thnks Sky. i didn't mean that question just for you but for everyone, and i know it's not the same scenario by far, i was intending to see what the responses would be to this one though. tell me much about a person.

If I saw anyone in trouble like that I would stop to help. I did just last week. Saw a domestic violence in progress. Boyfriend was punching the girl in the face in their car. He ran off when I approached and I helped her get medical/police help.

I stopped for a car that was crashed on the side of the freeway a couple of years back. Used my first aid kit to help the guy. By the way, if you see a tire rolling down the road at you (I was on a downhill slope of the freeway) you should not try and stop it from rolling past you.

At least he didnt take out a bunch of innocent people with him like so many disturbed, younger people are doing for attention, and their fifteen minutes of fame.

I probably would have logged off and went to bed. You can never tell what's real and what isn't online. *shrugs*

sounds reqasonalbe, sometimes all we can do is attempt to help. once i tried to help someone and they told me to leave them alone to get away, so i understand that sometimes my help is not wanted or appreciated.

To be honest, I probably would have thought it was staged. And probably nothing.

If I saw it and I actually knew the kid, I would have alerted authorities ASAP.

That's a no-brainer for me. I'd not only call the police, but I'd be in my car on my way to where I knew they were.

But I don't know them so the question is invalid to me. It's selfish to try to keep someone here that doesn't want to be here. I have very mixed feelings on the subject through personal experiances with death in my family.

it should be a no-brainer as you say for everyone, but i personally see no diff. in whether i know someone or not, i know i would try my best to do what i could unless told by the person[s] they did not want my help emphatically as i once was told.

The difference is not in whether or not to do something, the difference is in what I can do. It all comes down to the physical whereabouts of the person in question. This is not so simple to find out from the internet.

If I knew the person I would most likely know where they were physically and could act with more confidence. If I told you all right now I was going to kill myself, who would you call right this minute?
