Topic: How many doing online dating really know themselves? | |
---|---|
Hi: New here today; not new to online dating.
When my ex and I separated 2 years ago (we were divorced last summer), I took a year off to collect myself, get to know myself after 19 years of marrige (and 21 years in the relationship). I believe I am honest on my profile and honest in person to people I meet for dating. I can't understand people who jump in the dating game the second their SI hits the road. But, that is another story. My SIL asked me if people in online dating sites were honest, and I had to tell her yes and no. Yes, they believe they are being honest, but no, they just don't know themselves. One of the first guys I met (not from this site) said emphatically he would not deal w/people who misrepresented themselves. Then he sent me photos of himself, and when I met him in person, I realized the photos I'd see had to be 3-5 years old. Wasn't he guilty of doing what he said he absolutely would not put up with? I'm sure he didn't realize it, though. Another guy showed up with NO TEETH and then claimed *I* had misrepresented myself in my profile. I think not having teeth is something you should mention to a prospective date. I mean, I assume someone is going to show up with all their body parts unless specifically told that is something I should not expect. I was just wondering how closely people examine what they write in their profile and how much people wrestle with accidentally misleading people on. Night, MJ |

Everything in my profile is 100% true

My profile is exactly what and who I am!

What sense would it make to put up old pics and then go meet someone,
who could then EASILY tell you're older than the pics? Makes absolutely no sense whatsoever....but, for some people, deception is a way of life, it seems. |

I do have to admit, the pic is about a year old.
But only because: 1)I hate people taking pictures of me and 2)This is a new computer and 3)I only had two reasons |
|
|

Its touch and go... Ive had the good the bad and the ugly from online
dating. |
|

Right, I am not saying people purposely lie (or even try to trick
someone with an old photo). They just don't know themselves well enough; they think what they are writing is true. |

This was my first experience with internet sites or talking in
type,,lol And I have found ALOT of fake PICS,,,and ALOT of fake PEOPLE!!!! So I am ALWAYS reading ones profile and seeing what and how they speak on posts,,,,I HATE PLAYERS AND LIARS!!!!!! BUT I LOVE REAL PEOPLE!!!! |

Just to be clear now
<<< this pic is 4 years old I dont look that good anymore lol The other pics are current, except the one of me around 3yrs old |

Speaking of photos, I don't have one up because I need my BIL to take
one of me and post it (he's the computer geek in the family). iam4U, I am not sure this goes so much for men looking online, but the tipoff for me (uh, a woman) that the guy is not that interested in actually dating is hardly anything written in the profile. Or nothing written in the profile. They are not that interested in advertising their personality so to speak. |
|

from my experience, forums have been a good way to go. Profiles can be a
mock up. and, it's no secret folks lie. not ALL, but they do. I usually tell them to get to know me in forums... if they can't be bothered to go, or read, I take that as serious impatience, lol. |

Hey River
I'm sorry that happened to you. And I'm sorry that I can't stop laughing at the thought of someone showing up with no teeth. It's easier for them to lie in black and white than in person and OMG are they gonna have to put a geriatric question in the profiles of these sites now. I have to make light of it cuz if it ever happened to me I don't know what I'd do. |

That's River *Girl* to you, Mister.
After the guy with no teeth, I was ranting and raving to a friend, "The guy had no teeth and showed up like there was nothing wrong," and my friend said, "Maybe where he is from, there WAS nothing wrong with showing up with no teeth," and I realized my friend was right. Well, I learned my lesson. I learned to listen really carefully when things progressed to where we were talking on the phone, and I kind of knew what someone who was missing teeth sounded like, how they pronounced or mispronounced things. SO! I asked this other guy down the road, do you have all your teeth, and he said yes. And *he* showed up w/out a front tooth. I pointed that out to him, and he got all mad and said it was a tooth missing out of his dental plate, not his real tooth. Like that would be okay with me. It's okay, you can laugh. I laugh too. Just my luck, you know? This is how things are going for me now. It's just ironic that when I recently did not have dental insurance, I paid thousands of dollars out of pocket to have a porcelain crown put in, and now none of my dream dates have teeth. (And these guys are in their 50s, not that old in my opinion!) Hey River I'm sorry that happened to you. |
