When I look at all the good job the Bank CEO and those Investment Directors or those Car Companies Presidents made lately I would suggest that he applies for any of those jobs I'm sure is high school diploma can't do worst than what the people there now are doing.

That's really tough, it's hard to get a job right now, even with a college degree. Sales is always one place that doesn't necessarily require a diploma but in this economy, it's a tough way to make a living. Retail, too.

While I know it's not helpful now, but have they thought about returning for their GED or something?

walmarts and menards are hiring, and expanding as well, depending on what area you're in. it's not the job sometimes, but the people that make it worthwhile, and it's a good stepping stone to better jobs later.

I know a lot of high school dropouts that have these jobs, and they make more money than most people.

Good ideas but do they need any kind of specialized training/schooling? Some do, I believe, though I'm not positive flowerforyou

It depends. Some people just learn it from there friends/relatives. Some companies start you out as apprentice, like a hands-on training thing, other companies would like you to go the trade/vocational school, and I'm not sure, but I think some of the companies even pay for the schooling.

Mind you. This is like 5-10 yrs ago. I have no idea what construction crews are doing now, since the real estate market took a dive.

I cant really offer any advice to your friend, i dont know them or the area they live in.

But people in my area(london, England) i would recommend working on the underground or railway. Most train drivers, guards and ticket staff earn about 30k a year(so thats maybe 55k in dollars), and they have a really easy job too. They still complain and strike all the time. bastards. If i didnt have a better and even cushier job id be really angry! lol

Depends on how old he is. If he is young,18-20, there are apprentiships and such through unions.
If he can get an entry job with a company, sometimes they will help with schooling after he gets his GED. But, in it is important he gets his GED! Heck! even the Marines have a quota of how many non GED applicants they can take. Best of luck to your friend.

Grocery store?

Grocery stores and retail in general will be hiring right now. That should cover rent, while they look for something better. (I've been at my retail job for 7 years.)

Working 3rd shift can pay more than management positions also. Something to keep in mind.

PCB shops always have a high turn over rate, if you live in an area that has a circuit board shop, then have them apply there.
