Does anyone else have a bad boss. I was just informed today that I have to work Thanksgiving which I thought I had off because I have Thursdays off. I have not seen my brother in a year. I will be written up if I don't work. So what would you do?

Yes I had one up until 3 weeks ago, the jerk still owes me money

awwww...so sorry...I would probably take the chance of being written up if it won't cost you your job and go see my brother...you never know from day to day what life brings

Hmmm if I haven't seen a brother in a year I don't think I would trash a job in todays economy when I can easily see him after I get off. If he hasn't seen me in that long it isn't likely he is going to support me if I do loose my job.

Is your boss a jerk? Making you work on your regular day off? That depends on what kind of a business you work for and what your seniority is. If you are low man on the totem pole. Too bad.

If it is a peak business day; too bad.

Or if you are the kind of employee to just ditch and not show up because he is too short on people with your skills to fire you then maybe you are reaping what you have sowed.

If someone is purposely scheduleing me on my regular day off I would seriously get with the program and do my job and I just might start seriously looking for another one.

I would know I was on the short list to loose my job and I sure as heck wouldn't wait for it.

Good luck what ever you decide to do but keep in mind quitting a job or a termination not only hurts you short term it can affect your career and your credit long term.

Unless you have a very stable job, I'd be careful about calling in.

Umemployment is at an all time high right now, and it's almost impossible to find a job.

I seen one of my bosses get his azz kicked right in the office one time by a dude he fired. Hilarious. I try my best to not have to fire people or be a jerk ,but I have had threats made to me as well. I usually fire them on the spot when they do that.

...smash his face in with a phone. Then hit him with your car. Sorry, my boss is being a real jerk lately also. It is good to dream.

Does you employer have a policy on holidays? I work for a hospital so we are open 24/7. We have a policy that just because the holiday falls on your day off does NOT mean you have it off. Every year it amazes me how many employees are surprised that they have been scheduled for a holiday.

P.S. If Thursday is your day off then you would hit the jackpot this year! Thanksgiving, Christmas AND New Years are all on Thursday.

Thanks everyone....I think I need to call my union rep. There is too much of a gray area in my job working with the developmentally disabled in supported living.

Did you ask to have Thanksgiving off? Because if you just assumed that you would get it off bc you normally have Thursdays off... Well, we all get screwed when we assume. I'm sorry this happened to you but I sure wouldn't risk my job over it. Can you work a shift and get off in time to still go see your brother?
