No, I don't know much about Hinduism. Are you Hindu?

Okay, here is my first question before I start doing some exploring of the subject on my own....are Hinduism and Buddhism very similar or no?

No I am not a Hindu, but I do read about it.
The Buddha was raised as a Hindu, but found no Ultimate answer that satisfied him. He struck out on his own.

So Buddhism was born out of hinduism. Interesting. Thank you for your answer.

Welcome to Mingle! I had prashada (sp?) one time with a man and his wife who were Bhakti Yoga (I think, it's been about a year). I thought they were Hindu, but they set me straight on that one. I guess they don't think much of Hinduism. They said that Bhakti Yoga was the original religion and Hinduism sprang from that.

The food was excellent! I wish I could cook like that.

ok! prasad means, gods blessed food, it's like they cook some food, offer it 2 god and then eat it.
morevr talking abt bhakthiyoga, actually yoga emerged from Hindu monks, actually they used to go meditate for years at a time, to keep themselves healthy they started doing yoga, that's it.
actually Hinduism was practiced since the early man cultures, there's one in India called harappan culture, it's like the first ever colonies of prehistoric times, they proved that they prayed sun god(one of Hindus gods).
