lets go this way, what are the benefits of online dating?

You can be ignored by millions and millions of people all over the world, most of whom would never have had the opportunity to know you exist, and thus to make a deliberate decision to ignore you, had it not been for online dating. These are much more impressive numbers than simply being ignored by a few hundred or a few thousand in your hometown.

when you travel, you can make friends enough to visit and hang out, and they usually love to show you around, so you get a different perspective of the place you are travelling to, from a local point of view, for good restaurants, and things to do, that you wouldn't know otherwise. i've made great friends from here, but that was my only goal.

Gives both the ability to approach someone in a venue they would welcome a personal interaction. I am not approaching them in the workplace, or during recieving services, or when they are interacting with their children or other family and friends even remotely.

Gives the person I am interested in a clear signal rather than a veiled message that I am attracted to them.

Gives both the ability to approach someone who may live very close but just don't overlap in the same exact patterns.

Gives both the ability to have private choices.

Gives the opportunity for both to look and meet with out the interferance of friends, co-workers, or family who do not know or respect my preferences.

Gives both the access to a pool large enough to find enough commonalities.

Allows both time to ask basic background and values questions with out compleately invadeing a person's privacy.

Allows both to search at times that are convienent to both but are not necessarily when you would meet the other person. Early morning on a coffee break, while watching TV, after the kids are in bed or playing near by but oblivious, or holidays, or even when feeling ill. I know some people actually look while they are suppose to be working.

Allows both people to visually see the other before meeting. No people don't look all that much like their pictures but if you see snapshots you still have a general idea and can speak to some preferences to size and shape and style. If you IM or Cam you have a good sense of their conversational abilities before you give them your phone which gives them your address.

Allows both to see about the persons lifestyle by exchangeing communications over a period of time in forums.

Save a great deal of time and money on both sides. Dateing is time consumeing and expensive. I personally would rather spend that effort on someone I have established and interest in.

Allows you to reject a person in a non-abusive way so that rejection rarely carryies over into your day to day life.
