No disrespect here. I have worked with the mentally ill.

You say that they are making themselves sick physically. I don't understand.

Winx,

I do not have a working history as a health professional or a mental health professional, but what I think gentlefaith is referring to is Hypochondriasis. A person who does not REALLY NEED medical attention but THINKS they do on a regular basis.

Yes, I know them.

When I read what she says, I don't get that out of it:

"see that those 90% do not need the medical care they are receiving most are mentally ill and make thereselves sick physically."

But..I do think mentally ill people need to be taken care because they don't get enough care as it is.

if things continue the way they are, we won't have to worry cause we will all have to go to canada or mexico for health care cause no one wants to be a doctor in this country anymore. between the cost of med-school, insurance after you get out it is a lose lose situation. The only people making money in medicine these days are the insurance companies.

I have two uncle who are doctors, they both are very near retirement. One a OB GYN is one of the last OB's left in D.C.
The other is a pediatrician, who is forced to see 3x more children each day than he did when I worked for him over the summer 20 years ago, to keep his practice going.

I'm considering an officer comission in the army to pay for medical school.

Estimated cost of medical school is $236,000!!!

Tha's some crazy SH*T

Ya, tell me about it... If i get it through the army they will pay for everything.

Might be worth another six years of military service for that...
That sounds great..As well it should..There needs to be more incentives..More incentives to stay in..I thank you for your service and sacrifices you have made.

it was Ronald Reagan's fault. He cut Federal funding for mental health and a lot of people lost care

Yes, he did cut the funding. They even discussed that in my college textbooks. That's when a lot of mentally ill people became homeless.

The state of Fl under Jeb severely cut state funding for hospital care for them and literally put these people on the streets. More traffic for the high priced ER.$$$$$$$$$$$$

Makes you wonder why the first thing cut is usually medical care or education....

This is why i wish states had a bit more independence. From what i understand the states send their taxes to the IRS, then have to basically ask for the money they need back... In order to get proper funding, states have to follow the federal goverment's "rules". This is how the department of education works anyway... This is also why i back Dr. Paul's plan on abolishing that program too.

But, i think many problems could be solved by using cheaper, noninvasive treatments, and preventive medicine. Honestly you'd be looking at a 75% decrease in costs. (This is probably an underestimate.)

drinker drinker Yes think %75 is low. I would rather pay $100 now(average Dr visit) than $1500(average Er visit). Wow do it just 100 times you would pay $10,000 and save $140,000!! To me we are already paying the $150,000, why not pay the $10,000 and spread the savings(you all dont like spreading the wealth) around...I could use some of those savings!!!!!

it's only enough to get them into Community College, or to help with University of NM. But it's more than most kids would be able to raise on their own

And a LOT of kids still don't use it and go to work at McDonalds

That makes no sense to not use the money.
