What I don't get is when people use that excuse and quit before they have another job as a back up. How much more stupid can you get?

I have a whole stack of applications here... most of them are not currently working and at least 90% of them put "not enough hours" as a reason for leaving their last job.

You are right. That person will biotch.... I had to quit, they didn't give me enough hours...

Here is the deal. They either left for another position that was full-time or they honestly thought they deserved full-time and would rather leave than be treated like a part timer. Translation = not good enough. Scary, huh?

No, it means they have entitlement issues, Jilly.... they think they are too good for part time. Please please call them up and offer part time positions...

If I was only working 16 hours a week I would quit because I need at least 40 hours to survive. How many hours were you giving this person???

I have a kid that just started working at my job, and he has only been there a week now. And he already told me that when my boss gets back next week, that he is going to quite, because he is not getting enough hours. I am thinking, OK quit, then you will not be getting any hours at all. Then I tried to tell him that I needed him on Saturday and he refuses to come in because he said it did not come from the boss, this was even after I showed him the text message from my boss.

Sounds to me like he is just using the lack of hours as an excuse to quit, otherwise he would have jumped at the chance to work on Saturday to get extra hours.

I know people who have left a job because they weren't getting enough hours. Though, they had another job lined up beforehand. I don't really see the point in staying a job that's not going to give you enough hours.

But at least look for another job then before you quit the one you have.

I totally agree. If you're not getting enough hours at your current job then by all means, go find another one. Just don't quit the one you currently have BEFORE you find a new job.

Yeah, I guess some people don't have enough common sense not to quit a job before finding another.

I have quit jobs before for not giving me enough hours. I did secure another job before I quit, but "not enough hours" was the reason I left.

If I wasn't given enough hours, I didn't make enough money to pay my bills.

I think it's a fine reason for quitting.

That happened to me. I told people I left due to poor management. In that, I was hired at 32 hours a week and given 16, so I left. (New job in hand) I never said, "Not enough hours"..... why would I take a job with not enough hours?

Well it usually happens when someone is promised a certain amount of hours or shifts, and the company fails to keep that promise. At least in my experience.

There is only 1 job that I left without having another job. My boss was such a jerk I told him to go FUKC HIMSELF and left in tears. Made me not want to do hair EVER. 2 weeks later I was working at a value village. noway
