Dear diary......can you make a sponge cake look like a sponge???? I think that would be pretty cool  Yup Two tricks: Prep the batter with enough yeast to form air pockets. Or use a baster to put fluid in the batter in pockets, that the cake batter soaks up during cooking (but it leaves tough spots since the batter won't rise evenly. I love it that you seem astonished!! I cooked for the entire family, for a few years.  (Old style oven was persnickety as could be, and Betty Crocker was just beginning to make mixes that were dependable.) |

I hatched in the henhouse, and parents adopted me.
