Should a church be able to openly donate money to any political campaign? I say no and if they do they should lose their tax exemption..The reason they get the exemption is the separation of church and state..It unfairly pushes someones beliefs on others..Freedom of Religion was one of the stepping stones this nation was founded on!!!

Church and Politics should stay separated issues, none of them should be able to influence the other.

i personally believe the church shouldnt be involved in anything other than moral development, and even then it sometimes falls short. My opinion as an agnostic and someone who doesnt believe in any religion is that the church shouldn't be involved in any decision that affects rational and practical matters of governance.

I just saw on the news where a Church of Latter Day Saints donated over 1 mil$ to support Prop8 in California..To me that's is wrong and they should lose their tax exemption!!!

When any church gets involved an any shape fashion or form with politcs, there tax exemption should be revoked ASAP

Prop8 is a church issue. Church going people decided gay marriage is wrong. That's why the church was involved. But I don't think any churches should be able to raise funds and donate to legal State issues.

If it was not for the Moral Majority Bush would not of won either term. They just told thier members who should be voted for at the pulpit. Thier the ones with the real power in the churches.

What would be the difference between the church, as a group...making a donation, and the individual(member of the group) making a separate donation? The group being made up of individuals...who would still have a right to their choice. I'm not picking either/or on this issue...but was just wondering what the difference would be. Would that not be a legal "work-around" on this issue? What is your opinion?

I'll tell you something that two churches did by me. A Catholic man that I know went to church two weeks before the election. The priest told the congregation that they would no longer be Catholic if they voted for Obama. Our newspaper did an investigation on another church here. Again, it was a Catholic church. During the sermon, the priest was comparing Obama with Hitler and told the congregation that they would go to hell if they voted for him. I am a firm believer of separation of church and state. |

I understand what your saying...and I agree with you...but if the individuals were to vote/make donations as an individual...nothing to do with the church(or so they might would say)...but would the church be penalized for what an individual did outside the church. Like I said...I don't take sides on this...but when I first read this thread...that question come to mind...no more/no less. |
