The Sarah Palin doll has attracted particular attention because all four dolls are sporting outfits inspired by their real-life counterparts. The Palin doll is wearing the Alaskan governor's trademark rimless glasses, red suit and heels. Palin was recently heavily criticised after it became known that the Republican Party had spent $150,000 on her outfits during the campaign.

During a single shopping spree in September, she reportedly spent $75,000 at Neiman Marcus in Minneapolis and another $9,500 at Macy's in the same city.

In a complaint lodged with the US federal election commission, a group called Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington has argued that buying the outfits violated campaign rules banning the personal use of campaign funds.

"These four folks in particular seemed like the perfect candidates, if you will, to become one-of-a-kind Cabbage Patch Kids," said a spokeswoman for Jakks Pacific, which manufactures the dolls. "We've had a great history with making celebrity look-alikes with these kids. We've done everyone from Elvis to Donald Trump to Ellen (DeGeneres) and Oprah (Winfrey)."

All proceeds from the auction, which takes place on November 4th, will go to the US Marine Corps' Toys for Tots foundation, which provides Christmas presents for needy children. The auction will also include 6 limited edition 25th anniversary dolls identical to those Cabbage Patch Kids first created in 1983.
