I recieved my divorce papers tonight. The end is near and find myself sullen, sad. Is this normal, even if it is what I have wanted for some time?

Yeah. There is a normal grieving process comparable to a death. Give yourself time to heal.frown flowerforyou

as many of you know, i tried for YEARS to make it work. Now I am feeling i wasted my time and energy and should have just moved on long ago.

I asked for the divorce then when I saw the papers I had to remind myself it was a positive thing and my first step to a better life.

She wants her maiden name back after 20 plus years together. Is this to say she is ashamed to have been with me?

I know the feeling. I felt the same way after my divorce. However, if I HADN'T had tried EVERYTHING I could have before ending it, I would have regreted it the rest of my life. Loss of time I can live with, regrets & not knowing if I could have fixed it, not so much.

I do feel that I tried my best to make the unhappy happy. Time will tell all.

I've been divorced three times so I've had a little practice. The only thing that makes it better is time. It'll hurt like hell for awhile and then one day you'll notice that it doesnt bother you so much (it'll never go away completely)
