I think a statement like that could relate directly to the holy bible. I make no argument that there might possibly be elements of truth running through the scripture. Truth as defined by individual eye witness accounts which we know can be unreliable and lack credibility very often. Its also open to interpretation as no two individual humans experience events in time in the same manner. Its not necessarily that one depiction holds more truth than another. Its simply that humans observe and retain information in different ways.

Then add agenda and actual willful distortion of events and you have a bit of a problem.
