We have no right to infinge on another mans beliefs or principals, we ourselves are to imperfect.

Who are we to stand in the way of our own brothers/sisters happiness? We are only here a short while, its time we work together instead of against each other

Even better I actually live IN San Diego.
And believe me, I do worry about the education of kids who's parents think California gets earthquakes because of gay marriage.

You should try picking up one of those evil science books filled with evil facts about the San Andreas Fault and continental drift.

Why the tangent on Harvey Milk? I didnt here a god forsaken thing about how he was brutaly murdered in his office by a Right wing terriorist, who got convicted of manslaughter because of the "Twinkie Defense", what a miscarriage of justice,

Hmm, why the justification of violence while your own god taught that LOVE was the answer (Read the sermon on the mount, its the most love filled speech ever written!)

Can't be teaching kids about tolerance and compassion to fellow man. That'd be the exact opposite of christian.

Its pretty funny how terrified the catholic crazies are about their kids being taught to accept and respect people.

The real reason prop 8 scares the crap out of you is that it interferes with your teaching them to HATE and be INTOLERANT of others who live differently. Sorry that EDUCATION interferes with your programming of bigotry into young impressionable minds that dont know any better yet.

Questioning the veracity of authority is the responsibility of anyone that wants to think for themselves and NOT just be LED down a path of ignorance, BLINDLY following dogmatic falsehoods.

Ever stop and think about how YOU were raised. And that if you weren't taught the things you were taught to believe, you might think differently now, than if you had had those beliefs PROGRAMMED into you when YOU were a kid.

Please...if the institution of marriage is so damned good why is being married bad?

If you want to encourage commitment why is gay marriage bad?

If you want people to honor each other and their community why is gay marriage bad?

How does two women or two men marrying diminish your union? If you have one?

Go apply for a marriage license. Have a judge marry you. The catholic church does not recognize that as a marriage. You are however legally married.

Simple right?

So, why is it okay for a religious institution to dictate its definition of marriage to the rest of us?

I was the first person in my family to not be married in the church. It was shameful for some of them. Until twenty years later when I was divorced. Hypocrites haha

There is or should be a great difference between the legal union of two people and the religious union of two people.

Why is it so hard for people to recognize and respect that? Why is there so much hate and loathing?

Be honest you religious types...ask yourself...if God really hates this don't you think he or she can sort it out? God might be a little pissed off that you were so full of false pride and presumption that you decided you could speak for him or her here on earth.

Last time I looked "Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall."

If your faith is so strong the answer here is simple. Let go decide. If you really want to be faithful servants then maybe you should get up and serve.

Let gay people solemnize their unions in legal terms. Would that diminish your marriage? I hope not.

I hate it when people say that it doesn;t affect me or you!!! Its not fair for someone to be forced to marry them if they didn't believe it and then be put in jail away from their wifes and children that;s not cool whatabout our rights in the church ???? Not only that but do you want your 1st or kindergarten child to learn about two men or two women kissing and getting married at such a young age thwy should be learning their name alphabet not about homosexuality that's my main issue and yes that affects me and my future children I need to protect them we do whatever happened to morals????? ( HERE IS A LETTER I RECEIEVED ENJOY)

Dear Friend,
"Just as opponents of Proposition 8 are airing television commercials labeling as a lie the claim that gay marriage will be taught in California public schools unless Proposition 8 is passed, a Massachusetts couple is appearing in a powerful new ‘Yes on 8’ television ad that begins airing today explaining that gay marriage was taught to their seven year old son and his classmates in second grade. Massachusetts legalized gay marriage in 2003 and their public schools actively instruct young children on gay marriage.

Robb and Robin Wirthlin’s seven year old son, Joey, came home from school one day to tell them his teacher had read the class a book about a prince who married another prince and the two men went on to become, “King and King.” The book includes a scene of the two male princes kissing each other.

When the Wirthlins contacted school officials to complain about gay marriage being forced on young children in the Massachusetts public schools, they were told they had no right to control the curriculum, no right to be notified when gay marriage might be taught in school, and no right to pull their child from class."

It DOESN'T AFFECT YOU UNLESS YOU WANT IT TO. What's the big deal? And not everyone goes to church and believes in that brainwashing garbage. I have a 19 month old son and I also have a gay cousin. I will not shelter him from knowing about homosexuality, why do that? It doesn't mean he is going to be gay.

Ignorance is bliss.

Well ignorance is pretty dangerous too. It can make other wise well meaning people make really stupid assumptions.

Good thing we have all these nice FACTS lying around...like this one for instance:

* PROP. 8 DOESN’T HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH SCHOOLS

There’s NOT ONE WORD IN 8 ABOUT EDUCATION. In fact, local school districts and parents—not the state—develop health education programs for their schools.

NO CHILD CAN BE FORCED, AGAINST THE WILL OF THEIR PARENTS, TO BE TAUGHT ANYTHING about health and family issues. CALIFORNIA LAW PROHIBITS IT.

And NOTHING IN STATE LAW REQUIRES THE MENTION OF MARRIAGE IN KINDERGARTEN!

Why does it bother you if your child learns about homosexuality and about people who are different than your child? Perhaps if your child sees it at an early age, he'll be more open minded. That's always a good thing.

Not to her, a child raised with an open mind and heart, that's taught NOT to judge, and hate, and fear...that wouldn't be in the Churches best interest. Gotta gettem while they're young so they wont grow up to question the bullsh!t thats forced on them when they're still impressionable. Thats why kids being EDUCATED about the how world really is terrifies those who would simply continue the cycle of prejudice and hate.

I figure one of two things

either homosexuality is a learned behavior or it's a genetic predisposition

if it's a learned behavior then it's only a lifestyle choice and no special dispensation is justified

if it's a genetic predisposition then we should probably be funding money to research a cure. Maybe a telethon?
