for fire, if you wear scrip glasses you have a fire source there, or a mirror will do in a pinch. flint and steel works wonders too.

spices are good, but i dont think you will have them with you when you get lost

Humm like was said glasses you can use those to start a fire or a mirror which is also good source for facing it towards the sun the reflection can be seen for miles.

And of course another thought is if you come up on a river follow it down stream normaly will lead you close to a where someone lives.

Ohh and I do know one of the main things is build a shelter in order to stay dry.

Even seen once where you could take big leaves and form like a cup under other leaves to catch the morning dew.

I sure can't think of any special skills I have right off hand, but I'd sure hope that if I had any, that would be the time I'd discover them. I should maybe try to watch some episodes of "Man vs. Wild", what do you think?

yeah shelter is very important, and i know more than one way to get water even in the desert with a sheet of plastic, a cup and 4 sticks. and man vs wild is good for somethings, but no everyone is going to be able to do what he does
