i can't dish it out
but seem preordained to take it
i try so hard get on top of life
but always fail to make it

and sometimes i
can get just close enough
to get a glimpse of what
life could be if i only could
dig my fingers in
just a little further
into the dirt
and pull just a little more

i've tried to help myself
i'm tired of falling
but not tired of trying
grab my hand and never let me go
pull me up, and i won't be such a heavy load
