I was dating this guy for a few weeks and things seemed to be going well. We spent quite a bit of time together and did alot of talking. Well somehow we got on the subject yesterday about my nephew who is gay and I said he more than likely will he will be the end of the family name (notice I said more than likely!). Well this got him to thinking and he is the last of the family name as well. So he texts me last night telling me he got to thinking about this and can't see me anymore because he wants kids (he is 47 and too old to have kids in my opinion). But I thought it was beyond tacky how he went about this and that he should have been a real man and called to discuss this with me. I myself will call a guy and tell him exactly why I don't want to see him anymore because I think it's the right thing to do. What is everyone's take on this?

Maybe, but at least he told you the truth and didn't just do a "disappearing act" with no explanation. Sorry that happened to you. flowerforyou

It can't be just that...

IMHO there had to have been another reason...

But i agree the way he did it was really wimpy, i hope he goes and get himself a Dom that'll punish him for being so cowardly...

I agree it was a bit tacky, but he did come out with the truth. I would have much preferred he had talked about it either by phone or in person.

Actually I wouldn't mind a text break up. I mean, if they are breaking up with you there's not much to talk about. What is awful is when there is just silence and you have no idea whether you're being broken up with.

Why do you think it can't be that? Having kids or not having them is a deal breaker for a lot of people.

True! I've been there done that as well. The silence can drive you mad!

That was the only reason. He said I was a wonderful and sweet woman but he had an issue with me not having kids. And at my age I will not give in.. no more babies for me!

Yah, for 20-30 year olds, think about it, 35 year old women have trouble having kids, this guy is 47.

Okay, wait....so it's not that he wants kids, it's that you've never had kids? that's what bothers him?

No.. I have 2 kids and they are 18 and 15 so I definitely don't want more. He has been married before but has never had kids.. and he has an issue with that because he will be the end of his family name. Guess he thinks he's guaranteed a boy first try!

It couldn't have even been a factor,

adoption

First of all, 35 year old women do not have trouble having kids. It really isn't an issue until they hit 40 although there is a slightly elevated risk of some birth defects after 35.

Second, men do not run those same risks and if a man has never had kids he may very well be interested in finding a woman in her 30's to have children with. It's not as uncommon as you think.

Well, then I think he was telling you the truth. It is perfectly reasonable to think that he is having regrets over never having had any children and wants them now.

Not everyone is comfortable with that especially if it's important to this guy to have a child from his own blood line. Now don't get me wrong....I don't agree with his line of thinking, but it is not uncommon at all and sounds like the truth.

Yah, and an elevated risk of trouble with the actual birth.

Plus if he adopted, he could pick a boy instead of trying over and over until he gets one.

He actually has an adopted daughter but wants kids from his own loins so to speak.
