I am seeing more and more kids working instead of hanging out at the mall...guess Mommy & Daddy have cut off their allowances. About time.

It's not too bad around here. Seems like things go on as usual. Wierd and I don't know why.

After a hurricane though, the greed kicks in and everybody's labor is all of a sudden worth double what it was.

I'm thinking about investing in the stock market now that it's so down. It WILL go back up!

My boss has a Thrift Savings Plan and he told me yesterday that if he hadn't of moved his money from the "stocks" plan over to the "government backed" plan back in January, he would have lost 98,000.00 over the last week!! WOW!!

No one is gonna be able to fix things though until we americans start taking care of our OWN and stop trying to take care of the rest of the world!! They don't appreciate it anyway, and then they hate us.

Jumping up the labor costs is about right. I can't believe the contractors that had the nerve to charge $20+/hour and pay maybe $12 or less after the windstorms. Same way with the the healthcare agencies/nurseing homes. They charge $25 an hour with a four hour minimum then the workers are lucky to take home minimum wage.

What knocks me out is the parents that think they know where there kid is just because they can call them on the cell phone. You are just giving the kid another way to outsmart you and access to a whole lot of people they don't need to be plugged into. Not like a cell phone is going to protect a kid from anything. It actually makes them a target.

I'd rather my kid have a cell so I could call

Do you have any idea what the cost is to run a company or nursing agency? Do you know what the cost of insurance is? Do you think all they have to do is pay their employees?

Take a business class and get back to me.

Yea and a lot of other wasteful baloney. The whole lets study the problem thing when we KNOW what the problem is. And the solution.

How about the high cost of the medical services they let the insurance companies charge yet they do nothing,oh well as long as they have their nice big house to vacation to while the average person worries about the high cost of heat this winter guess its all good

Actually I do know what it costs to run some of these businesses and they are raking in the cash like it is no tomorrow. I am all for making a fair profit if you take the risk to and work your buns off to start a business but some of these places are gouging the people they provide sevices to and the emplyees that do the work.

You claim that charging 20.00 an hour and then paying the worker 12.00 an hour is unfair, those numbers are about right on the mark.

and please tell me where you can get a nurse for 25.00 an hour, when in the hospitals they make more than that.

I have a recession proof job, so I don't worry about what happens. My 401k has tanked, but I'm not retiring anytime soon.

I am not talking about licensed professional nurses for $25/hour I am talking about CNA's. You would be right they earn even more (which given their education, responsibility, and experience they should).

I think the worry should be more about the high cost of the services not how much the nurses are making they deserve every penny they make.

Then 25.00 is about right for them, they go to school, they make about 12-15 an hour the cost of insurance is much higher than a construction insurance. They have to do background checks and if they work with an agency the agency is responsible for keeping them certified in most cases. So 25 an hour is about par for the course.

I know people that have taken all their money out of the bank

I know I had a couple of sleepless nites when our local WAMU was shut down a day or so for internal audits; someone inside the bank was doing something; it got hushed up pretty fast. Thank heavens it was FDIC insured or I might have been up a creek. I never did figure out how they could afford to give new checking account customers without a minimum $75.00. Not like there is enough capital in the account long enought to be anthing but on paper breifly. Maybe that is all it takes. LOL they do get to use your deposits for up to ten days for free. Not that mine would be all that significant. I expect to see people charged for checking account services soon.

I'm just SOOOOOO GLAD I made the right chioces 30 years ago (mostly by accident and some by design) with the right "recession and layoff proof" job that pays 6 figures, the right retirement system, and a fairly inexpensive place to live!!!

Not too shabby for a high school dropout!!!
