Types of Personality Disorders:

Cluster A: Includes paranoid, schizoid, and schizotypal personality disorders.

Cluster B: Includes antisocial, borderline, histrionic, and narcissistic personality disorders.

Cluster C: Includes avoidant, dependent, obsessive-compulsive, and passive-aggressive personality disorders.

None of these can be "fixed". They don't go away. They can be managed, though, IMO.

They are NOT MMIs. Not mental illnesses. They are Axis II. They can be fixed, you'd be surprised. It's called boundaries, therapy, cognitive therapy to be exact, and a loss of SSI benefits. I agree it's rare, as it is hard work....

A personality disorder is not a mental disease or defect. It can be fixed or corrected, with treatment.

I'm so with you there.

Here is a good one:
What's the difference between an azzhole and an antisocial?
Health insurance....as the antisocial got the diagnosis. laugh

Yes, Antisocial=Azzhole. Totally.

Winx, I know Biploar is real. I met one last week. But since then I've met six who were just losers who got the DX somehow.

sorry to clump all of them together as they are technically not... but people with personality disorders deff rub em the wrong way

you really think they can be fixed???? i don't think im at the level to accurately say for certain but i don't think i can cosign with you on this one. maybe its the word "fixed" they can deff take strides for the better but medication doesn't do anything and they will be that way for the most part for life. maybe " managed" is something i can agree with... assuming you can get them to believe they have this diagnosis

I don't believe that they can be fixed. They can get their symptoms decreased though. They are difficult patients for therapists.

And no, Lilith, I am not ADD. laugh I am just too impatient.

It is rare adults carry such a DX into adulthood....

But I gotcha, that was very cute and I smiled. I'm impatient myself!
Your comment made me laugh, cause I have thought the same thing. I won't belittle those with real mental issues, but I truly believe the medical professionals have a knack for over processing these things. Seems like almost everyone has something now. JMO

Depression, ADHD, ODD, OCD, Biporlar, Schitzophrenia, schitzoaffective, conduct disorder, personality disorder.

a lot of men and women swear that their partner is crazy but have the time done even know just how right they are.
Are you or have you been involved with someone you swore was mentally off? Have you been involved with someone you KNEW had a mental health issue? Ive know guys who have stayed with someone mentally ill because of the " physical" benifits"

however in the end a lot of these don't go well because there is not a firm grasp of whats really going on. Im curious what you guys have to say.

I married someone with schizophrenia. She had lost her kids to the court system, and one of them was mine. I thought that the condition was treatable with medication. Living with her for several months apprised me otherwise.

When she was lucid, she was the most loving person I have ever known. Unfortunately, when she wasn't lucid, she got violent.

2 of my exs r bi-polar, 1 of them i was with for 9yrs, the other 2yrs.

One has a jekyl Hyde type nature and has OCD, and 1 is a self harmer. Both of them swing between extreme highs, and extreme lows. Life was very difficult with both of them, but moreso the first, longest 1. He is the father of my kids, and i still find my dealings with him very difficult, and feel ive almost adapted myself to a certain way of acting, so not to get him anxious.

He has been in therapy for yrs, and still struggles to find any inner peace.

Mental health was not something i considered before i got into these relationships.

Thankyou, but it wont be that next week, it will be 36!

No, i never wondered....with the first, i met him when i was 17, and i had no awareness of mental health issues. It took a long time for me to convince him to go to the doctors.

With the second, i knew he suffered with depression,(later diagnosed as bipolar) but i loved him and thought i could deal with it. I still get on with him now, we r still friends.

I have mild Schizophrenia, which I control with natural medicine and incense (aroma therapy or something another). I've seen people with horrible Schizophrenia who have absolutely no idea what it is and what it does to the mind usually because of poor prognosis and even worse prescription. I know a lot about Schizophrenia which is probably the main reason it is so under control...the day it is out of my control is the day I see a Psych.

I spent 12 yrs. with someone that suffered from chronic depression. My ex suffered from depression and anxieties.

They weren't their diagnoses.

My man suffers from ADHD. I would not ever think that I am with him because he has a great body or whatever! He is a total package even with his disablitity...he is kind, considerate, and loving despite his ADHD. He does have his moments but that doesn't stop me from loving him completely.

If someone is staying with someone because of thier physical attributes and not what thier heart is about, then they are the ones with a problem and should be checked for mental problems!rant

Look bro I don't know you personally or how severe yours is but the majority of individuals i have come across with schizophrenia have either 1 felt that nothing was wrong 2knew something was wrong but still refused meds because of the " side effects" or 3 believed they had it but in one way or another " had it under control" so excuse my skepticism...If you know your illness then you know its more than just seeing/hearing things

Do you have it? Do you know anything about it? What are the symptoms I should look for? What kinds of medication should I take for it?

I do have it under control, it does not affect my personal/public life nor does it affect my professional life. You can be skeptical but do not come out and tell me I am wrong or challenge my decisions based of your experience. Everyone deals with the condition differently, some neglect it while others accept it and then there are some that just don't care. I accepted it, learned about it, and am taking my own preventive measures so that it does not affect my life more then it already has.

Risperdal, Halperidol, Trazodone...just some of the meds my wife was on...and wouldn't take.
