Why do parents let their kids drink underage? My friend told me that her parents let her drink at the age of 11. I was totally outraged about that, and my friend was going on talking about it like she was proud about it. I’m like that’s not anything to be proud about, first your body isn’t mature for that alcohol, and really alcohol is bad for your body anyway.
So why do parents let their kids drink underage?

Called "Child abuse or child neglect."

Parents need to be educated properly.

I agree that what you're talking about is child abuse but I also think there should be exceptions to underage drinking. If a 17 year old person is old enough to pick up a weapon and defend our country then he should be allowed to drink a beer if he/she wants to.

okay so I'm a youngin and I've never been drunk! Woot! Anyhow here's the thing about underaged drinking, at least from what I've witnessed. We all see it as something "cool" its almost a right of passage for some. Like who doesnt get hella wasted in high school right?

Now, personally, there have been ocassions where friends wanted me to get wasted with them, obviously I didn't. But the one time I seriously contemplated it I was blown away by the parents. They knew their daughter was having people over to get drunk. The only thing they said/did was not buy ( so we had someone who was 21 buy) and they were big on no sex?!? How does that make sense?!?

Idk. I figure when I'm 21 i can drink, and why blur out the parties?!? Haha

I agree. Neglect. Either that or the parents don't care because they have alcohol drug problems.

The legal drinking age was 18 once upon a time. The only reason they raised it was because there was a spike in alcohol related deaths caused by the irresponsible use. The govt panicked. It was because of it's negative effects it has on the body.

Your parents make sense because drinking alcohol does not make babies. Sex does. and babies are not cheap. they cost 18 years of your time and money.

This is a topic that has me in knots for many different reasons. I was one of those guys/kids who drank at an early age. I thought it was cool to have older friends and go get sh*t faced at parties and the such.
I look back and think what a f*ckin fool i was to throw away so many good years by being the "LIFE" of the party or the cool kid who could always score alc. for anyone for any occasion.
My parents eventually let us drink at parties they hosted. First discretely then quite openly.
I am not ashamed of my parents and love them to death this day, but there reasoning to this madness was better to have us at home, if we were so intent on drinking, then out in the streets or "DRIVING" from place to place getting hammered.
I am totally against underage drinking now. I have to wonderfully beautiful daughters and they will know that such actions will not be tolerated. I will not condone any such activities nor will I boost such activities to a point they think it's COOL.
But if your old enough to go and conquer and die a country for a insane dictator we call Mr. Pres. then hell yes your allowed to have a drink RESPONSIBLY!!drinks
