Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson vs. Ken Shamrock
(For some reason, I kinda want to call this the upset of the night. I'm curious as to how Kimbo would fare against Shamrock on the ground. But then again, Shamrock is like 50 years old. If they stay standing, Kimbo in 1) EliteXC Welterweight Championship Jake Shields vs. Paul Daley (Paul Daley is the Cage Rage Welter. champ, he's no slouch. But Shields has been on a tear and looks to improve his status as a Top 10 Welterweight. Shields is a part of Team Cesar Gracie... enough said. He'll look to take Daley to the ground and test his Jiu-Jitsu. Shields in 1) Affliction Fight Andrei Arlovski vs. Roy Nelson (Roy Nelson was the former IFL Champion, which isn't really saying much. His only loss in the IFL was to Ben Rothwell. And if you saw Arlovski vs. Rothwell back in July, this should be a cake-walk for the Pit-Bull. Andrei in 2) Gina Carano vs. Kelly Kobald (Oh Gina Gina Gina, the ex-wife of my dreams! I dare not bet against her since my knowledge of womens MMA is still novice-like. However, this could be the fight of the nite. Thems women fight harder than the men. Gina in 2) Benji Radach vs. Murilo "Ninja" Rua (Don't know much about Radach. I'll go with "Ninja" in 3 because he's "Shogun's" brother.) |

Well it was the "upset" of the night, too bad it wasn't Shamrock pulling it off.
My girl, Ms. Carano still looking beautiful as ever. Hopefully she and "Cyborg" will do battle, soon. I called Arlovski in 2. I knew I should've bet some poor sucker. That was dope of Affliction to allow he and Nelson to fight in EliteXC. And Jake Shields holding it down for Team Cesar Gracie, woot-woot! Paul Daley put up a fight, though. But the fighter who impressed me the most was Benji Radach. That guys disipline is "Facesmashing-Fu." I'm still scratching my head over that, but it sure as hell worked for him when beating the snot out of Ninja Rua. Overall, I thought this was a pretty decent show that EliteXC was able to put together. Ken Shamrock getting cut might have been a blessing in disguise. With Kimbo getting knocked out in a mere 14 seconds in the 1st round, people are still talking about it and I think EliteXC can use this kind of exposure if they want to continue to be a major MMA promotion. It also helps that Affliction was willing to co-promote with them. That can only be good for the sport. |

There is an interesting dichotomy to Kimbo Slice.
One the one hand, its was AWESOME to see him exposed for what he actually is: a bunch of Youtube HYPE. Kimbo is ultimately bad for the sport because he represents everything that MMA is NOT. Which is exactly why its so effed up that his defeat may not be a good thing at this point in time and here's why. Because on the other hand, if this ends up finishing off EliteXC, thats actually not a good thing for the sport at all. Because we need as much competition for UFC as possible in order for this sport to evolve beyond Dana White's burgeoning monopoly and gain some mainstream legitimacy that would catapult MMA to heights of popularity (and respect)only previously enjoyed by Pro Boxing. As for the rest of the card... Now dont get me wrong, I'm a fan of Arlovski but that 1st round stand-up was bullsh!t. That was some awful refereeing all over that match. But I'm glad he won because now an Arlovski/Fedor match up is a very realistic possibility for January. And then there's Gina Carano...my future ex-wife Nuff said. The fight between her and Cyborg Santos should be epic. And a true test for Gina. Rowr! |

The highlight was definitely CARANO! I did not like the fact that Shamrock woosed out!
Secret! I spent most of my time watching UFC and switching over to ELITE. I did watch the whole women's fight though!! |

http://sports.yahoo.com/mma/news?slug=ys-mmaweek100708&prov=yhoo&type=lgns Just heard about that, too. EliteXC just dug a hole for themselves, no matter which way you look at it. Luckily, SHOWTIME is looking to buy EliteXC outright from ProElite Inc. Perhaps they'll make some changes of some sort, like a better female reporter for their CBS broadcasts. God I hope I'm not the only one who thinks she's horrible. |
