I will say that the parents that actually take the time and spend time with their kids. In the long run those kids will respect them much more. They will understand that if their mom or dad was a single parent that at least they were there for them at times more then a child that has two parents but don't take the time to really listen to them. I have seen this many of times.

At times the single parents try harder to make up the lost time the child does not get with the parent that is gone. And in the long run that child tends to get more attention then when they had both parents in the home.

Not saying this is always the case for I have seen it where they get pawned off on everyone but be with the parent.
