I was wondering if anyone knows how to go about copyrighting music...I'm trying to get some of my music out, and get it on the air. I asked for some info at xm sat, and they just told me to send in a cd...but...my stuff isn't copyrighted so I wouldn't wanna send anything out yet...although..that might be hypocritical cause the songs I'd be sending out are already on Myspace...so..if someone wanted to steal them they could have already lol

but, what are good ways to go about getting music copyrighted? and...does it cost a lot?

Legal question!!!

Only ask a lawyer true legal question like this. Do not pass go, do not collect $200.... call a lawyer or at least google it and look on a legal website!

look up the library of congress, and ask for as many applications as you need, it used to cost $10.00 per app, but that 20 years ago.
but that's the official way to do it.

thanx man, I hope it's not that expensive...the music is like...instrumental dance type in a way..it's hard to explain, its a lot of different styles put together...www.myspace.com/blackheartmusic2 those are my most recent works, the stuff I'd send in would sound like Giving up, Frosted Rose and The Lunar surface

Not really money making songs haha, but I just always thought it would be cool to have air time on the radio, on xm sat they got this station called "the system", it seems like my music fits into their broad ranged techno type station

All you need to know:

http://www.copyright.gov/

NOTE: You may be able to put up to Ten Songs on One Cassette Tape or CD, then file them under "Works By:" only be charged one application fee...

DEAL directly with The Library of Congress, DO NOT pay a "Middle-man" to do it for you... You'll be getting scammed...

GOOD LUCK!biggrin

You can also head out to your local music store (one that sells sheet music, like Sam Ash) and ask them for copyright forms for music. Getting the forms are free, but it costs $25 to to get your song copyrighted (as far as I can remember, that is). I believe you can also get your song registered via ASCAP and BMI as well.
