Topic: What can I do | |
---|---|
Ok I have a hugh problem and dont know what to do to overcome it, maybe some guys or girls have had the same problem. I can not, and Ive tried, can not let me repeat can not go up to a girl in public and talk to her let alone ask her on a date or number or anything. I cant even talk, my mouth freezes. All my friends laugh they say its so easy, and I should have no problems with it, they try to tell me to pretend im writing them a ticket. And thats the funny thing, If Im in uniform at work, I can go to anyone and talk to them and be an officer, but as soon as im in reg clothers, i cant do anything. Does anyone have any advice on what I can do to get over this? THanks

Hmmmm....
When I was in banking, I got promoted into credit and loans. To me, that was where the "grown ups" were, and I never have felt like a grown up. What I did was pretend to remove my kid face and place on a "grown up" face and pretend I was some grown up, act like a grown up would, until I got comfortable being ACCEPTED as a grown up, which I probably was, but since I didn't see it that way, faking it was the way for me to cope. It's like playing pretend, putting on an invisible "mask". Don't know if that will be your thing, but it worked for me back then!! Best wishes!! |

Only thing I can think to try. Practice a few conversations, in case you bump into a woman. When you meet someone you want to talk to. Stop, Relax, and remember she is human. Just talk to her.

Just relax, the general public will talk easily with you in plain clothes. Start slowly, a nice smile and a hello can be a great opening line to meeting people. People will not be as tense when you are not in uniform.

Why is it that you have more confidence with your uniform on?

It has nothing to do with confidence, its just that I can talk to anyone cause thats my job, and because im usually talking to them about something they did wrong, but in public im trying to pick someone up and I dont know the right avenue or approach

It has nothing to do with confidence? I'm not buying it.
Get over what the issue is. Or accept it. What is it you are afraid of? |

it's the same reason you became a cop
low self esteem |

Any one else see it? Maybe I'm reading too much into this, but it's almost as if you feel you have some sort of power over people because you have the uniform on, and without it, you are powerless. Maybe it's just me......... |
