Now, Ive been thinking about this alot lately..... Sometime within the next 4-6 monthes Im gonna be joining the Army or the USMC. I'm tired of being a zit on the ass that is America. I love this country and most everyone in it. It's time for me to grow the f*ck up. i know we dont know each other very well (or at all lol) but i was wondering what you guys think. Questions, comments, and advise will be greatly appriciated. thanks for your time, Brandon |

Statistics show that the majority of homeless people in the US are retired vets. So if you want to be a part of that statistic be my guest. |

I gave the army 9 years of my life, and spent 6 of it stateside, and 3 in both Europe, and Saudi/Iraq/Kuwait in Desert Storm. I went in at 17, and got out after 3 years, back in 85. The economy really sucked down in Texas at that time, so after 15 months, I ended up going back in, and did the last 6 years that I did. I got a 126 on my asvab, and could have gotten anything, but this is about you, not me. I don't remember ever seeing a soldier firefighter, but I saw medics all the time. They checked us for all the usual crap that soldiers got struck with. You might want to try for something a bit loftier than an emt. Not to bash it, I have nothing but love for the ones I know. It's just that I'm wondering if the army or corps will use you in the capacity that will help you after you get out. You could get into the hospital scene as an x-ray tech, or many other fields, like dental assistant, or... who knows.. The air force does use soldiers for firefighters at the air fields, and with you having the wont to be an emt, you might be able to be cross-trained to do both. And the navy uses firefighters on carriers, and other large ships, so that might be something to check into. I salute you on your desire to serve my beloved country. If you ever want to chat, just drop me a note. sully when i tried to enlist 3 years ago there was a 5 year waiting list to join the, i think they called it "fire corps"...im not sure... |

Statistics show that the majority of homeless people in the US are retired vets. So if you want to be a part of that statistic be my guest. No, that's wrong.. Whomever put that in a report is wrong. Approx 30 % of all homeless are vets, but there's nothing in the neighborhood of a majority being retired.. That's just poppycock.. I'm in touch with my senator here in illinois, and have been in contact with some big-wigs in the vfw, and american legion.. the numbers are sad, true... but nowhere is it written that those numbers are correct.. |
