Learning To Swim

Caught in a moment
Where everything's right,
Emotions unstrewn
With a clear line of sight.

From out of the darkness
Came an ocean anew,
Holding me buoyant,
Uplifted in you.

No need for excitement,
No fear I would drown.
You were the one
Who'd not let me down.

Soon changes occured
With dark clouds on the rise,
Prayed I these storms
Would quickly subside.

The tempest soon came
Though I tried, I confess
To ride out the storm
Though under duress.

Your waves how they rocked me
As my heart cried in fear,
My spirit grew weary
For you were not near.

I held my own breath
And still I went down,
Unable to swim,
I feared that I'd drown.

I reached out for nothing,
Only damp in my grasp.
I looked up to see you
And saw nothing,

Alas.

I kicked with my feet
And grabbed at the sea,
Steadily rising
From deep currents of thee.

I searched for a harbor
But none could be found
So learned I to swim
Till my feet touched the ground.

Now my sea legs are steady
Though I walk upon land.
Now life has moved on
As I play in the sand.
