She sits in the window,
remembering another time.
Watching as the cars pass,
she can't help but cry.
She misses the way his strong arms felt,
wrapped around her middle.
A safety and a comfort,
like a parents', when you're little.

Her fingers trace the droplets,
a drizzle against the window pane.
The tears on her cheeks mimic the descent,
her sadness is falling like the rain.
Maybe in a month or two,
she'll find her voice and yell.
But the screaming trapped inside her head,
has become her personal hell.

She walks into the nursery,
her fingers trace the lines of her sleeping son's face.
She resolves herself against the heartache,
she knows she can't afford to lose faith.
So she'll lay her head down on her pillow,
and if the tears come, well, then they come.
She'll sleep until the sun rises,
on the face of their beautiful son.

The morning brings a chance to start over,
a new way to face this big, hard world.
And the sunrise lays its peace at her doorstep,
a new beginning unfurled.
Her baby's cries bring a smile to her lips,
and she puts down her coffee mug.
When that boy laughs and reaches for her,
she feels the strings on her heart give a tug.

So this is what it means to be happy,
on my own and living my life.
I can do this without any help now,
I can take any hardship or strife.
And someday I know someone will come along,
someone with a big heart and a wonderful love.
But until then I'll give me heart to my baby,
and give thanks to the Heavens above.
