I thought a marathon was 26 miles. NO a marathon is longer and last almost the whole day an official marathon is 79 miles in the US

Was trying to give you an out. http://www.marathonguide.com/history/ "The current marathon distance (26 mi., 385 yds.) was set for the 1908 London Olympics so that the course could start at Windsor Castle and end in front of the Royal Box. Not until 1921, however, was that distance adopted as the "official" Marathon distance by the IAAF."

US its a HALF MARATHON NOT A FULL MARATHON ITS NOT THE OLYMPICS EITHER IS 4 THE ENVIRONMENT A full marathon is ALWAYS 26 miles. That is the standard. And for the environment, not the Olympics, is that a joke? That comment can't possibly be serious.....

(bragging on my mom a little) My mother ran Boston 2 years ago in under 4 hours. She was 61 at the time. Ran it this year in 4:20. And it's just over 26 miles. Standard. Worldwide. They have ultras that are more. One here in Kansas is 100 miles.
