That is not something one should make a habit of and not a good way to keep what friendships they have. Have been there made a friend mad at me called the cops to go check on him and we live in different states. But.......one thing did come out of it good even though it put a dent in our friendship as far as I know he has not threaten to do it again. Think he got a dose of reality.

Problem is one never knows when they are serious unless you happen to be there when they are trying or the after fact after it is done. That can be very stressful to handle.

Try to get the friend to seek help if they deem down that path.
