If you like gaming, make sure it has a good graphics card - like at least 250 MB - I recommend at least a 512mb for the latest games.

Lots of RAM too is important

Dont get caught send personal emails when at work.
as for a brand name they are all decent just make sure you get what you need and dont let the sales rep push you into something you dont need because they need to sell them and get them off the shelf

Don't get the Acer gaming laptop. I know two people who have them. And both say they don't work for gaming. I know it's only two people, but so far, that's a 100% "not good" rating from all the people I know with the.

I don't like Macs. But my friends with Mac laptops love them. So that may be an idea.

Well, don't expect to have a good gaming rig from a laptop. If you want one decent for gaming you have to sacrifice battery life, cost, and size.

If it is important however, my first suggestion would be a Sagger, then dell XPS. First I would suggest you check this place out.

It is a forums just about laptops. They can really help you find the best thing for what you want.

Don't worry about the processor speed too much. As long as it's dual core, you probably will be okay.

At least 2 Gigs of Ram.

32 bit os Either XP or Vista, although I'd recommend XP.

And I agree on the video card. Make sure they name the brand (Nvidia or ati) and at least 256 Meg Ram but 512 is better.

Having never bought a laptop, I can't recommend a brand. Kinda like cars, different people have different experiences with different brands.

Laptops tend to not do too well for intensive apps like gaming. Those that are specifically for gaming will tend to cost a buttload of cash (i'm talking $2500 and up), and will also be pretty large and heavy. Light games like Solitaire and Minesweeper will probably be okay, but don't expect to play WoW or Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare on them.

I'd look for either a Fujitsu or Toshiba lappy, as those are probably the better brands out there. Of course, you can also get a Mac as well, but that's only if you're a fanboy of Steve Jobs.
