The idea of a dating site is to be social and those are topics that people do talk about. So unless you want it strictly dating and only that, I think things like that are totally ok. Just keep them in a section where they belong, not cluttering up unrelated areas or something.

I thought this was going to ask why doesn't anyone seem to be interested in dating or something. That's sure how it seems here, but that's just my experience. Funny how all these people here but none even seem to want to talk or anything lol.

Well...one thing about a " dating " site is using said site to " get to know " someone, right???

Well...there are some topics such as Religion, Politics, Abortion Rights etc....that could be real " deal breakers " for some people when it comes to choosing someone.

It's a "dating site", but I see a hundred and one topics comparing President Bush to Adolf Hitler.

I see at least a dozen topics on Sarah Palin, Barak Obama, and John McCain (curiously, none on Joe Biden).

I've long since deleted the "Religious Forums" thread from showing up on my topic list. Not because I'm not religious, but because it's a turn off for me if someone pulls that conversation as the first club out of the bag to "get to know" me.

The socio-pop culture topics are amusing to a certain point. I understand why people feel the need to post topics on racism, abortion (see above), and the like. The double-edged sword to being able to post these at their free will are people responding to them at THEIR own free will. Hilarity ensues.

I think it really all comes down as to how YOU approach this site and what YOU hope to realize from it. We all have our different expectations and experiences. I think the combination of so many unique views on so many unique thoughts makes for a very unique "dating site".

Its a multifaceted site. People can be here to search for local singles, for dating, relationships, marriage, friendship, and for the "community". The forums are also multifaceted for all types of discussions and members.

I find religion & politics are important when dating someone, it makes a difference to me. But, that is my opinion and option here.

Perhaps....but not always.

Sometimes it's better to sit back and see how they react to things that are said by someone who hasn't shown a particular interest in them.

Keep in mind that when someone shows an interest, and that interest is mutual, the majority of people will try to give the other the best impression they can.

This is only MY OPINION ( so don't anyone start chucking things at me please ), but, I think that no matter how " real " someone says they are, there is still a tendency, if even only sub consciously, to try to make a good impression on someone that shows interest. That may make them hold back, when asked directly by the person interested, slightly from what they might really want to say.

I hardly think what I said was impressive, but thanks for the kind thought. I would guess a lot of people see the good in this "dating" website, rather than the bad. But I'm a ridiculous optimist. =) ::shrug::

Because there are other people who think like I do, and want to see someone's reaction to certain subjects. It's within the rules, so there is really no reason NOT to post those types of topics/questions.

Mainly, I think it's because some folks are genuinely curious about other folks' thoughts on some of the more touchy subjects that our society has brought to us.

I see what you are saying, but again there are people here just to debate and enjoy the discussion groups. Would those threads be the place to find a mate? Why not? You would see how they handle themselves in a debate and extemporaneous speaking...which is important to problem solving relationship issues as well. Sometimes we have to agree to disagree, and maybe seeing "red flags" even in non-dating debates can aid oneself in knowing more about that person more so in the lovely dovey threads. "To see that person in another light" perhaps...happy
