What's the difference between a divorce and a legal separation ? Just wondering.

A divorce is the termination of a marriage by legal action. A separation agreement is a formal agreement between you and your spouse. It provides for support and other financial conditions until the divorce is final.

Legal separation is when the judge has defined terms for the interim until a divorce or reconciliation occurs. Divorce is final and set into a decree.
