<<<<<<<<<Does anyone know what kind of turtle this is?

I found it in the middle of the road and picked it up for my daughter. I looked it up on the internet and I thought it was the Eastern River Cooter (I didn't make that up, that was the name listed) turtle. And according to the website, it stated that it needed to be in water, needed a dry rock to climb on to get out of the water when it wanted to, and to feed it raw meat and veggies. Well, my brother seen it and started yelling at me saying it wasn't the type of turtle I thought it was but was a box turtle, and needed to be on dry land, with a water dish and a food dish containing only veggies.

So now, I'm not sure what kind of turtle it is and until I find out, I'm not sure how to care for it. Can anyone help?

you know what, I think you guys are right, I think it is a box turtle. I did some research on caring for the box turtle and I was right about it needing a place to swim, (but not like I had it set up) Well, at least now I can properly care for it.

I had told my daughter that if I couldn't find out for sure, then we would have to set it free. Of course she cried, because even though we are not aloud to have pets (a turtle or fish is acceptable) we are the only tenants out of the 5 apartments that are abiding by the lease and don't have pets. My daughter thinks it's unfair, but I keep trying to tell her that once the landlord discovers the others having the pets, either the pets will have to go, or the tenants. So I will be working hard today to get this turtle back on track. Thanks everyone!

Dang it, now I have to admit it to my brother that he was right..grumble

If the bottom shell is hinged it's an Eastern Box.

if i were you i would take it back where i got it ,when i find themm in the road and i do this alot because where i live it becomes turtle central when it rains ,i pick them up and take them across the road whichever way they are pointed ...because they know the area and if you take them somewhere else they may not have the things or lifestyle they are use to ..maybe explain to your daughter that mr.or mrs turtle needs to get back to their family and perhaps take your daughter with you and let her release it enforcing the fact that its best for the turtle family....just a thought...
