They're not sure exactly what he died of. Rabies is just one (of many) theories. Alcoholism, brain congestion, cholera, drugs, heart disease, tuberculosis, syphilis, and meningeal inflammation (among others) are also suggested.

Uhm, no it's not, he "wrote" the Necronomicon in 1922 but yet a year earlier in 1921 he quoted Abduhl Alhazred as the author of it in his work "The Hound" |

Poe made me melt in long time lament and misery/horror. Lovecraft is the one who gave me nightmares. HSt is a bit of a stretch in comparison. He is not a poetic license he is an existentialist that is spewing drugged reality hoping that it is embraced by noncomformist who are likewise minded sycophants |

I wasn't comparing Hunter S to Lovecraft or Poe, I was saying that I prefered his work, and not all of Hunter's work was drug induced "Songs of the Doomed" was quite a morbid and solumn work.
