So shouldn't they be aware of it? Or should we just neglect it for the fact that some people may not like the facts?

Fear, it is actually quite common in Detroit.... I work in Ohio and encountered quite a few defendants who were prostituted by family members, one family had many daughters to have many daughters.... a money machine. All from Detroit. I also heard female circumcision is widely practiced in southern states... for different reasons. But that is way off topic.

Ethocentric: a sociological term whereby you view things as in the limitations and cultural norms/habits/customs of your own society.

Just so you know this is a post generally directed at foreign policy towards this, domestically this occurs in very few of children that are kidnapped (usually it is a jealous ex or a relative that kidnaps the child for personal reasons). Mexico doesn't even have a law against this kind of criminal activity, most of Asia has loose set laws on it...the foreign policy towards this is a joke.

The worst thing to me are parents that throw their kids off of a bridge, or send them in a car into a lake, or other horrid things I won't mention. Stranger abduction is Awful enough...but these parents that either murder their child or prostitute them out....God have mercy on them. Some people just should not breed!

I don't think it is in the US. I think they are referring to southern states of Asia where that is still practiced.

Go google it... I used this as another example of things that occur in the US on a much smaller scale than in other countries....

I don't want to 'jack Fear's thread.

But I DID mean southern US states. MI, TX, GA, LA, FL....

There is some pretty solid non-fiction out there on this topic, which I've read.

Anyhoo....

Does that still occur in the US? I was unaware of that, I will look into it.

Yes, and I'd bet in more northern states than I'd think, as some Islams use this practice as well.

It is still the destruction of a child. The desecration of their womanhood.

I've found some info for a more cosmetic directive of it, and unaccountable ritual uses (I haven't verified the information yet).

this is from 2000.

This second one, dated last year, discusses the disbelief that this practice goes on. "it estimated that 168,000 women and girls in the United States had undergone FGM or were at risk"
