I'll be thinking of this conversation on my wine tasting trip today. You'll have to tell us all about your trip. Enjoy the dayIt was the "harvest party" at a small winery about midway between Napa and Sonoma. The party was limited to "subscribing members" only (people who pay a monthly membership fee and receive a selection of wines on a monthly basis). Fortunately for me, my brother's wife had a function of her own to go to so I got to be his "guest of the subscriber" The winery is a mom-and-pop place. Their total yearly production is measured in hundreds of cases. The entire party consisted of about 30 people and was inside/outside. The food was pot-luck inside the "shed" (where all the wine barrels are stored) along with a few tables. There was live jazz music and more tables outside with a fantastic view of the entire plantation. So all-in-all, the whole thing was very cozy and informal. The wines available for tasting were pretty much all the newer bottom shelf and mid-shelf wines produced by the winery. But it wasn't difficult to sweet-talk the winemaker into breaking out a few of the older and/or top-shelf wines. (e.g. a '77 Merlot that was to die for!) And of course, yours truly was feeling no pain by the time sunset came around. |

Yes, it was one of the highlights of the summer for me. My favorite "picture" of the day: Looking toward the west, seeing the sun just starting to touch the tops of the hills across a couple miles of rolling vineyards. And just as the saxophone player starts into the opening bars of "Summertime", a large flock of geese, coming out of the sun and flying low in a perfect "V" formation, wings directly over top of the party. Couldn't have been scripted into a movie any better.
I grew up here (in S.F and L.A. areas) but spent the last 25 years in Florida. Just moved back here last June. A breakaup followed a couple months later by a layoff got me re-evaluating my priorities and I'm happy to say that family won out. So I'm currently penniless, jobless, partnerless, sleeping on the couch of a relative, and living out of a suitcase while job-hunting. But I'm happier than I've been in years. Yowsa! Didn't mean to go off on such a self-centered rant...but you asked. |

So how long did you live in Melbourne and how did you end up in Texas? |
