If you're a woman, would you stay with a man who didn't support you financially? A real partnership be much nicer than either party expecting the other to support them - that doesn't mean couples can't manage the ups/downs/differences in incomes however they want. I just know I'm not looking for someone to take care of me financially...

why does a love relationship has to be based upon financial support? that is why marriage by the state is such a disgrace. the only ones who need to be supported are the children bore by the couple. the spouses are adult independant individuals who need to be able to financially support individually because as far as things are right now getting married and divorced is as easier as changing underwear. best answer i have herd is this guys statement! bravo

I think both people should work. If there is a problem the other needs to help. It works both ways. By the way some people say that I don't work. But there not there when I'm fixing these apartments back up burning the midnight oil to get them rerented or in court.

Well..I can't work..if I found a guy that didn't work..well let's just say "Houston We Have A Problem!"..lol what if the guy is on a fixed income from state and cant work either, cause i cant I don't have a problem with guys that CAN'T work..I got a HUGE prob with guys that WON'T work..BIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIG difference there.Can't says you're incapable due to health reasons etc..Won't says you just don't want to cuz you're lazy.

Hmmm....this just begs the question.... What if you are in a relationship with a guy that makes less than you do? Would that eventually be seen as a problem?

i could care less if my partner made money, i got apt and all i need, i want love not money ,they could live with me and have no money as long as i wanted her also

I don't expect to be supported. If you are married or living together usually there will be times that one is depending on the other finacially for some reason. If I trusted someone enough to live with them, I might be willing to pay the majority of the bills while they were in school or getting started in a new career, but not forever.

it is best if both partners contribute in roughly equal measures financially and emotionally. this provides equilibrium and balance and avoids problems of real/perceived inequalities in the partnership. like any team sport - each team member will have strengths and weaknesses but the team performance will be more cohesive when each team member has equally important and valued contributions - when there are fewer individual weaknesses and more uniform strength...
