I'm not sure how much you think 80K a year is but it isn't millionaire bucks. I've made a lot more even when I was a lot younger...but I don't talk about it. How gauche. lol

Just a guess really. I've met more Democrats making over 80 grand than Republicans. Go figure that one!

I know a lot of highly intelligent people who can barely spell their own name (exaggeration) and a lot of highly educated people who can't hold a job long enough to properly feed and cloth themselves let alone their families.

I understand people who feel that if you are going to join a forum where you're communicating by written word, that spelling is a courtesy that should be considered for those you are trying to communicate with.

Personally, I don't care, but I can decipher most any writing to get the gist in general at the very least. I have had very little issue here myself in figuring out that their was misused for there. I simply don't care.

I do understand what you are trying to say in your op...because you are not going to win any spelling bees does not make you a loser in life. No, it doesn't.

Education has little to do with it however...you can improve your spelling if it is important to you. If written correspondence does not make or break your success in your career now...why would you bother at this point? You are busy living life and spelling obviously did not get you where you are today if you feel you're not proficient in it. Everyone's lives take different talents to succeed.

Wow, that was quite liberal. I personally believe that if a person cannot even spell correctly, they can't do much else correctly either. What does it say about a person who has not put enough effort into the basics or reading, writing and arithmetic to write a letter or calculate how much flour to use in a recipe?

It's that "It's OK to be illiterate" attitude that has made the US fall so far behind other civilized countries in education and earnings. It's a world now, not just a country that we live and work in. I suppose theres always a shoveling job for people with brawn and no brains but I don't see a great future for them. My kids worked in school and they learned because in this world, we compete for jobs, homes and companions. I want mine to at least pass the spelling test.

I see people on here (with college degrees supposedly) who still cannot discern the difference between TO, TWO and TOO. Thats not funny at all. I learned that in first grade....along with most of the spelling skills that we build on in our life.

In short, there's too many people who don't give two cents about learning anything...even to read and write.

And...lol. Check the demographics for people incarcerated in the US. A bunch of ill-educated people. If it was the lack of education or the lack of motivation to get an education (or at least some knowledge on your own), that put them there, I don't know. But I don't see many PhDs doing time.

Now now let's keep it nice in here. Just a word for the wise, it is great at your age you found a job you could make that kind of money. My son is 25 and also works on the pipeline yeah he makes good but he never throws it in anyone's face.

You know anything could happen and next week you could loose your job. Believe me there is no one that can not be replaced.

As far as the spelling hey I came from the same boat did not graduate got my GED 10 years later and took my first college classes 11 years after that. Did it make me better then anyone else no.

But here is a learning tool on the spelling download this web browser and guess what it does spell check for you. Not only does it bring it to your attention what it wrong but helps you in the long run.

When your words are underlined in red just right click while you have the arrow on that word and it will give you a list of words highlight the one that is right and it corrects it for you.

Not only do you not have to have others correct you but you learn the correct spelling while having fun.

There are all sorts of jobs that pay 80k a year. Pay not only depends on what you do, but also what part of the country you live in. People making 80k a year on the coasts have a higher cost of living. Someone making 50k a year in the midwest can live the same lifestyle. In the broad scheme of things, believe me, 80k a year is not that much anywhere you go.
